I am very happy to share our recent publication in JITC in which we found that tertiary lymphoid structures in peritoneal metastatic gastric cancer are most often immature and contain immune suppressive cell population. These findings contrast TLS features in other cancer types and likely explain the limited success of checkpoint inhibitors in this disease. This study again shows the complexity of the suppressed immune microenvironment of gastric cancer and the need for alternative (combination) immunomodulatory strategies in this disease.
