Proud to share my learnings on effective CSR communication at the Sustainability Leadership Training Program. When it comes to owning a topic like equality and inclusion, clear, authentic messaging is key. The rainbow movement has gained significant momentum in recent years - an important societal shift that forward-thinking SMEs should thoughtfully consider how to authentically embrace. There are certainly nuances to navigate, but the opportunity to demonstrate values-driven leadership on issues like LGBTQ+ equality is compelling. #SMESS #SustainableLeadership #CorporateCommunications

With DEI initiatives seeing increasing pushback across the globe, our recent panel discussion in Mexico explored, through a cross-cultural lens, the importance of LGBTQ+ inclusion, with panelists sharing personal stories, embracing their identities, and being their authentic selves in the workplace. ? Visibility matters: Sharing our stories helps break down barriers and building an inclusive culture. ? Tone from the top: Colleagues feel supported and seen when senior leaders engage. ? Policies matter. Small changes in people policies (particularly when it comes to supporting planning for non-traditional families) can make a big difference. ? Supporting junior talent: Senior colleagues can help junior talent navigate authenticity and differing experiences and viewpoints. Building a diverse team can help nonprofits understand the varied needs of the communities they serve. But diversity alone isn't enough. Creating a culture of inclusion and belonging allows everyone to bring their unique perspectives and voices to the table. For LGBTQ+ professionals, finding this kind of culture can be challenging. The Deloitte Global 2023 LGBT+ Inclusion @ Work report found that 42% of LGBTQ+ employees experience non-inclusive behaviors at work. What's more, a third are looking to move to a more LGBTQ+ inclusive employer. So, what can you do as a manager or employee to help everyone feel like they belong? As we continue to celebrate Pride Month, it’s an honour to be named by EG as a leading firm and “exemplar” of LGBTQ+ inclusivity for a second year in a row via their real estate survey. The EG survey seeks to understand the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community within the UK’s built environment sector. The results highlight best practices and recognise organisations working hard to create inclusive places to work. We’d like to thank our ME:Pride network and everyone who commended our LGBTQ+ inclusion efforts. The report also highlights the great strides being made, with 84% of respondents being out in the workplace and 90% believing they work at a firm that provides a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community. When you get into the detailed responses, it’s clear that there is still more to be done, with experiences varied across the industry. One of our firm’s core values is: Be Yourself – and while there’s still work to be done towards full LGBTQ+ equality in our industry, we’re proud to be leading the way.
