ICYMI This week we did something exciting that we rarely get to do. We announced our new (temporary) Floridian service between the Midwest, Southeast and Florida. It was an act born of necessity - the rebuilding of the East River Tunnels starting later this year will limit our ability to service long distance trains in New York (as happens today with the Silver Star). Instead of accepting a reduction in service, we will combine the routes of the existing Silver Star and Capitol Limited to ensure continuity in the communities that depend on them - while also adding a service that is one of the most frequently requested enhancements to our Long Distance network - Chicago to Florida. We will also be able to increase the amount of fleet available to the former Capitol Limited, reinforce the Superliner fleet and add both WiFi and "traditional dining" between Washington DC and Chicago. We've had a few people throwing shade our way about how long the journey will take. If you like sitting in a cramped airplane seat with 29 inches of seat pitch, hassles at security, middle seats and extra charges for everything, The Floridian probably isn't for you. However, if you like never getting a middle seat, more legroom than domestic first class, and the option of a private room with complimentary dining, then just maybe it is. For those of you who don't like to fly, live in small communities, have mobility challenges - or who just like to relax and watch the world go by - we're probably your ticket! #amtrak #trains #sustainability
