Have you heard about the Power of Reciprocity? Robert Cialdini, in his book, shares several examples of how the power of reciprocity can help you gain incremental business from your clients. I also came across the renowned story of how the Munjal Brothers, the founders of the famous bicycle brand "Hero" from our childhood, utilized this principle when selecting their distributors. The story unfolds with the Munjal brothers appointing a distributor in Lucknow, who initially ordered 100 bicycles. Upon opening the consignment, the distributor found 104 bicycles and promptly called Mr. Munjal to report what he believed was a mistake. Mr. Munjal replied, "It's not a mistake, but a deliberate choice, as a token to mark the beginning of our long-term association." Utilizing the principle of reciprocation, Hero was able to establish trust and build a strong network of distributors, effectively competing against giants like Atlas.
