Abstract submission for the Spring MRS meeting in Seattle closes 10/17! I am working with the Center for the Science of Synthesis Across Scales (CSSAS), an Energy Frontier Research Center, to host?Symposium?SF08-Achieving and Exploiting Complexity Through the Synthesis and Application of Hybrid Hierarchical Materials. Please consider submitting an abstract! Abstract Submission Deadline: October 17, 2024, 11:59 pm ET The abstract submission page:?https://lnkd.in/gnjhDVfF With living systems as inspiration, a grand challenge in materials research is achieving the rational design of hierarchical materials for complex functions based on a predictive understanding of materials synthesis across scales. This?symposium?will bring together experimental and computational researchers from across the science and engineering community to discuss innovative approaches to mastering the free energy landscapes that control the assembly of complex building blocks into ordered and functional hybrid hierarchical systems. Topics will include: Synthesis of hybrid hierarchical materials Application of hybrid hierarchical materials: Energy and the environment Application of hybrid hierarchical materials: Metamaterials Application of hybrid hierarchical materials: Biology and medicine Theory and simulation to predict the form and function of hybrid hierarchical materials Joint Sessions are being considered with SF07-Complexity Engineering of Materials Combining Order, Disorder and Hierarchical Organization. In this chapter, we examined the design, fabrication and sterilization of OoCs, applications of several OoCs, particularly lung, liver, brain and hearth along with their strengths, weaknesses, and disucssed their future directions
The first outcome of the new year is a book chapter "Tissue-on-chip, organ-on-chip, and organism-on-chip" published in Microfluidics-Aided Platforms for Next Generation Biological Applications,?Elsevier. Thanks to our former lab member Ya?mur Filiz, who is currently a PhD candidate at KU Leuven and our PI Ozlem YESIL CELIKTAS. Happy readings ??

“I want to be remembered for creating spaces that celebrate science,” HHMI Investigator Nels Elde says, “for supporting scientists so that they can grow ... so that they can inspire the next generation of scientists.” At the University of Utah, Elde and his lab use host-pathogen interactions as models for studying mechanisms of evolution. Elde says he prioritizes mentorship as a way to keep early career scientists in the lab and in the field. Learn more about Nels Elde’s research: https://lnkd.in/ePJuEMfu

2024 has been a special year, where we celebrated 40 years of EU research and innovation. It all started with the launch of the Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development, worth € 8,3 billion. In the last 40 years, the EU has set aside € 280 billion for science, research and innovation through several successive framework programmes. ? Did you know that 33 Nobel Prize winners have been funded by these framework programmes? ?? ? Take a look at a recap of the last 40 years or read the booklet or separate stories capturing the achievements made. #EU40YearsRI #ResearchImpactEU https://lnkd.in/gXEUmff2

?????????????? ???????? ???? ???? ???????? – ?????? ???????????????? ?????? ???????????????????? ????????????????? ?? ???????? ???????? ???????? ?????????? ???????????????????????? ?????? ???????????? Sholto David, PhD has created a stir by uncovering image manipulations in renowned scientific journals, causing the retraction of several papers. Join us for his Postdoc Talk on ???????????? (1-2:30 pm, via Zoom), where he will discuss different types of image errors and how to identify them. After a basic introduction to the problem, he will present examples of errors in different journals, subject areas, research groups, and institutions. David will also tell us how he scans the scientific literature for problematic images, identifying over 2600 affected papers, share some data related to journals and publishers and discuss his quixotic efforts to resolve these errors. To conclude, we will dicsuss why image (and other) errors matter. This Postdoc Talk has been organized by HRA Postdoc Network member Dr Rory Hennell James, who is a postdoctoral researcher at UKE Institut für Struktur- und Systembiologie and CSSB Centre for Structural Systems Biology. ?
