Last Wednesday, July 24, RFA headquarters welcomed a delegation led by South Korean Deputy Minister for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs Kang Jong-suk. The delegation of North Korean escapees met with RFA journalists to discuss ongoing human rights issues in their former homeland. The delegation said that South Korea's Ministry of Unification lauded RFA Korean as a leading source of news on DPRK issues, despite the immense challenges they face in their reporting. On Wednesday, a coalition of?Danish NGOs –?Oxfam, MS Action Aid and Amnesty International Denmark – together with the Palestinian human rights organisation Al-Haq?filed a legal complaint against the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and the Danish National Police. Through the lawsuit, the coalition seeks a ruling that Denmark?cannot lawfully grant permission for direct or indirect export of military equipment to?Israel, and that existing export permits are invalid and must be revoked. In the three weeks that have passed since the coalition announced their intention to sue the Danish state, there has been an outpouring?of support from the Danish public. Here, on my LinkedIn, I?backed the coalition’s?decision to sue, not least because the war’s toll on journalists is unprecedented. At IMS, we will closely follow the?Danish case as well as the several?similar cases unfolding in other national and international contexts. Today, as Israel’s war on Gaza continues to kill, wound and displace journalists and other civilians at an unparalleled rate,?I reiterate how crucially important it is that an accusation as grave as the one in question here be tried in a court of law, whether in Denmark or elsewhere. Indonesia Urges Breakthrough in Granting Special Rights to Palestine at The Emergency Session of The United Nations General Assembly Saturday, 11/May/2024 ???? https://lnkd.in/gTJ24uaM With Palestine's increasing role towards full UN membership, it is hoped that the political visibility of the Palestinian issue and struggle will increase. This is expected to facilitate and expedite the re-submission of Palestine's application for full membership to the UN Security Council, especially considering that the resolution also acknowledges that Palestine meets the criteria for full membership as per the UN Charter. The General Assembly session on Friday (10/5) began following the veto by one permanent member of the UN Security Council on Palestine's application for full membership on April 18. In response to the collective call from Arab states, the OIC, and the Non-Aligned Movement, the UN General Assembly has taken decisive steps towards advancing the Palestinian struggle and international peace efforts. Today's success is also supported by Indonesia's active role in rallying support from countries across various regions. This success is a breakthrough for the equal rights of the Palestinian people amidst the nations of the world.
