As a recruiter, I’m often handed briefs like: "I want someone with experience in [specific vertical], from a B2B SaaS background, with X years of experience." I understand, but with fewer than 60% on average hitting quota in B2B SaaS, why aren’t we exploring other risk-averse avenues? Here’s what I’m looking for: ?? Traits I Value: Grit, EQ/IQ, coachability, and strong intrinsic motivation. I want someone who brings something extra—whether it’s a background in music, sports, or social justice, someone who’s excelled beyond the professional box. ?? Who I’m Targeting: I’m looking at talent from traditional, often underappreciated industries where educated people may be limited by compensation ceilings—think nursing, teaching(?? me), and similar fields. I doubt if the Wolf of Wall Street would be a top sales performer in 2024. And I’m not the only one. I talked to a Head of Sales earlier this week and asked him what the biggest myth is about sales people." Top performers in sales are extroverted, highly confident people who are great at talking"Actually, the contrary is true. Yes sales people can be confident extroverts but those are not the common denominators that determine success. The common denominators are: - Genuine interest in understanding if you can solve a problem for your client - Genuine interest in contributing to someone else's success These can only be achieved through listening more than you speak. A trait commonly seen in introverts. Great news if you’re hiring for sales talent- your potential talent pool just got a lot bigger!
