#Breastcancer accounts for about 1 in 3 new female cancers each year. And in recent years, incidence rates have increased.* Comprehensive, personalized cancer care is critical when it comes to prevention, diagnosis and treatment. This is why we're educating clinicians to take an integrative approach to oncology. In the Integrative & Functional Medicine Fellowship, we're bringing the cutting-edge knowledge and the latest evidenced-informed approaches of both integrative and functional medicine to clinicians. Sandy Colvard, ND, FABNO, directs our course on Integrative Approaches to Oncology. She is a licensed naturopathic doctor with the UCI Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute, with more than 14 years in cancer care and cancer survivorship and chronic disease management, as well as autoimmune conditions, gastrointestinal conditions, hormonal imbalances, thyroid and adrenal conditions, depression, anxiety and grief. Dr. Colvard is a fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology and has served as a naturopathic physician at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) hospitals in Atlanta and Philadelphia, where she supported patients undergoing treatment for all types of cancer. Marcela Dominguez, MD, is a lecturer in the course. She is a board-certified family medicine practitioner who specializes in integrative medicine and concierge primary care at the UCI Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute. Dr. Dominguez completed a fellowship in integrative cancer therapy from the American Academy of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine and a fellowship from the Medical Association of Pediatric Special Needs. Her other clinical interests include bio-identical hormone replacement, nutrition and herbal therapies in a highly customized, integrated protocol. Patients cannot achieve optimal health without addressing both their physical and mental well-being. Research consistently shows that these two aspects of health are deeply interconnected. For instance, individuals with chronic conditions are at higher risk of developing #mentalhealth challenges, while those with mental health conditions, like depression, are more susceptible to physical ailments such as diabetes or heart disease. Unfortunately, many patients still do not receive the comprehensive, whole-person care they need. Physical and mental health often remain siloed within our healthcare system, resulting in fragmented care and poorer outcomes for patients.
