?? How did QYOU help Hulu reach young Latinx audiences via their first Spanish-language series, La Maquina? When Hulu set out to launch La Maquina, they needed a creator-led campaign to spark excitement and conversations among young Latinx viewers. With our experience reaching and engaging key communities, QYOU partnered with Hulu to activate diverse creators like Abelardo Campuzano—known for his humorous spin on Hispanic family dynamics—to introduce La Maquina to his fans in his style and voice. Many shows miss out on audiences because they lack creative, organic promotion. When creators and actors aren’t engaging with trends, they lose the chance to drive buzz and bring in viewers who may never have considered watching. Enter Brian Jordan Alvarez, star of The English Teacher on Hulu! By jumping on the viral "I Love Your Daughter" trend, he’s brought fresh visibility to his show, helping it rise through the ranks on Hulu. It’s proof of how powerful the convergence of creators, trends, and Hollywood can be in elevating content and connecting with audiences. ??? What does the Netflix team look out for when they see the script for a show in the Asia Pacific? - Minyoung KIM "We don't actually try to create something for the global audience. But you know, when I first see the script, when my team, when they first read the script, they sort of look at what are some of the strengths of the show? How will this resonate within the local country [or] home country? But what are some of the aspects? It could be a genre, a certain type of character, or a theme. Will that actually resonate outside? Try to estimate the size of the audience. If it's a story that we believe is really for the local market then it's still a great bet to make because that's our goal, satisfying our local members. We just have to make sure that we right size investment. But if we believe this type of show actually has the potential to go beyond the local market, we want to make sure that we put the right size investment in that show. So When we read a story, we think about what is the size of the audience, and if we change a certain thing will we be able to really expand that audience, and is that aligned with the creative vision of the creator?" For the last four years, I’ve hosted a quiz night at my local pub. It has been a great experience, with colourful personalities and multiple demographics within the regular teams, many of whom I’m delighted to consider friends. This week’s quiz was my last as the regular host. I will miss seeing everyone on a weekly basis, but I’ll be along to play or fill-in occasionally. From a broadcaster’s perspective, it has proven to be a very effective learning tool. I think the pub’s capacity is around 65. We’d routinely have 50 or more players. Over the course of my early months as host, I found my footing in front of a crowd, in a way I simply couldn’t have staying married to my commentary box. I also believe that being able to perform to actual people in that setting has made me better on-camera too; I certainly don’t think I’d have been much good at that style of work pre-pandemic. At the Pau Grand Prix in 2022, my commentary box was open air, in full view of 100+ people, all staring in my general vicinity (or at least, at the large screen directly behind me). That would have thrown me off completely without the platform of the quiz, where I figured out how to function before an audience. For broadcasters, it’s always worth trying a little bit of anything and everything that involves putting a microphone in your hand. Even the most unlikely experience may benefit your skillset. Thanks Golden Lion. I took away lessons and new skills I hadn’t counted on, and friends I’ll always be delighted to see. #broadcasting #commentator #presenter #microphone #pubquiz #broadcast #publicspeaking #talk #communication #eventhost

Aussie teens rarely watch #AustralianTV, preferring streamed content with diverse and inclusive representation from around the world. Anna Potter, Clare Archer-Lean, Harriot Beazley and I just published our article “Mermaids and bin chickens: Australian teenagers’ engagement with screen stories in the on-demand age” discussing the results of a participatory #audience study from the University of the Sunshine Coast investigating how, why and to what extent Australian teenagers engage with TV drama and #movies in their daily lives, including Australian stories. Findings show that teens enjoy watching screen stories on their favourite streaming services and that on-demand delivery is critical to their viewing preferences, while Australian content is a low priority.?This has profound implications for Australian screen policy, production and public service broadcasters in the future.
