To what extent could bad customer service impact one's business?
I'm here to share a short recap of an event that happened to me recently. Being a home food lover, sometimes I do get some cravings for crispy chicken. That day I was mentally tired to cook by myself so decided to grab a takeaway from a local crispy chicken franchise around my place. That was not an international franchise as you might imagine, but a small local crispy chicken franchise in the UK.
When I entered the shop and was waiting to order, I couldn't find anyone in the front of the house to serve me, so I patiently waited for like 5 minutes for someone to turn up. During the waiting time, I just looked around the kitchen area, and the display trays, and I could hear the workers chatting in the kitchen area.
Meanwhile, I lost my interest in buying food from that place as I felt something not really good there. The unclean shelves, that not-so-good kitchen area, the tone of voice I was hearing from inside, and the waiting time for no reason (not busy) made me just leave the place. And I don't think I'll be visiting that franchise ever again.
Later, I did realize it all came down to the factor of Customer Service. When the customer doesn't feel valued at a place, the chances are really less that they will come back to you. It has been almost 10 days since this event happened, and my opinion of this food chain hasn't changed.
This occurring with just one customer might not be big of a deal, but that one customer's word of mouth will rapidly spread, and can't imagine how big of a deal it might end up. As I have always strongly believed the best customer service could save and grow a business to any extent, this proved me right again.
