The Extended Evolutionary Synthesis (EES) is a non-creationist alternative to traditional neo-Darwinian thinking, and in this paper, from within the context of the EES, I will discuss how individuals not only respond to and manipulate their environment, but teleologically direct the course of their own evolution. However, they do so whilst embedded within a vast, complex system where each individual pursues its own goals. Thus, it is not only the genome which directs the course of life on Earth, any more than it is any one gene. From the cell, to the individual, to the population, to complex ecosystem function, the gene is a resource. It is not the ruler.”

?? Our teams are talented?! ?? We are particularly proud of our R&D colleague specialized in genetics Francesco Boatta. This January he became a doctor after sustaining his thesis?in front of experts in #entomology, #genetics, and evolutionary biology Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. ?? His work investigated the possibility to select for lean or fat insects : he demonstrated that fat accumulation can be a target of selection in the house fly ??. His results are a major step towards a better understanding of this insect and developing breeding programs aiming at creating insects with nutritionally tailored phenotypes. Due to the similarities with house fly, his work has a great relevance also for #blacksoldierfly. ?? Bravissimo Francesco! #insectresearch

November to February, 4 months just finished with a glimpse! But it took everyday field visit, even under severe cold, crossing between the genotypes in the field for hours and continuous monitoring for birds and pathogens.
