In the first three months of the year, the country claimed to have intercepted at least 1,011 missiles and loitering munitions, and shot down at least 16 jets of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) — 13 of which were downed in just two weeks. The kills include two modern Su-35 fighters and 12 valuable Su-34 fighter-bombers. But the most significant kills may have been two Beriev A-50 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft — platforms that carry no offensive weapons. The loss of the two A-50s represents an enormous blow to the VKS and its operations in Ukraine. Flying since the earliest days of the war, both sides have utilized early warning and control aircraft to enhance their capabilities and defeat each other's planes and missiles. Although Ukraine didn't inherit any A-50s from the Soviet Union, its American-made equivalent, the E-3 Sentry, has quietly played an important role in Ukraine's campaign to defend itself from Russian attacks.
Russia's hunted A-50 command planes are its eyes over Ukraine. Here's how it compares to the Boeing E-3 Sentry.

Taiwan conducted a missile launch at the Jiupeng test site, demonstrating its missile capabilities in response to increased Chinese military activity. The military test included the firing of U.S.-made Patriot and domestically-developed Sky Bow III missiles, as well as RIM-66 Standard missiles from a warship. Defense Ministry spokesperson Sun Li-fang expressed confidence in the training of soldiers and the effectiveness of their weapons systems. Jiupeng also serves as a testing ground for new missile developments, including the longer-range Hsiung Feng. Taiwan's government maintains that only its people can determine their future, rejecting China's territorial claims. #AsiaRisk #GeopoliticalConflictandDisputes #Japan Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/gXu8ruek

The United States plans to deploy its new Typhon medium-range missile system in the Asia-Pacific region by the end of 2024, aiming to enhance deterrence against potential threats from China and North Korea. - by Frederic Eger/EBN - The deployment of Typhon in Japan allows the United States to reach the territory of three countries at once - China, Russia, and North Korea. The US Secretary of the Army, Christine Wormuth, discussed the prospects for involving the new American Multi Domain Task Force (MDTF) in exercises on Japanese territory during a recent visit to Japan. The Typhon is the US Army's first medium-range ground strike weapon since the end of the Cold War and the termination of the Russian-American INF Treaty in 2019. Its launcher is a land-based version of the Mk41 shipborne vertical launcher. The Pentagon signed a contract with Lockheed Martin for the production of these complexes in November 2020, a little more than a year after the INF Treaty, which prohibited the creation of such systems, collapsed. Typhon is capable of launching Tomahawk cruise missiles (range up to 1,8 thousand km) and Standard SM-6 multipurpose missiles (range up to 500 km in the current version, but in the future, it is expected to be more). It is assumed that Typhon batteries will become part of the MDTF strategic fire division, along with batteries of High Mobility Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (HIMARS) with new PrSM missiles (with a range of more than 500 km) and Dark Eagle hypersonic missiles (aka Long Range Hypersonic Weapon, LRHW, with a declared range of more than 2775 km). Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that Russia would respond to the actions of the United States and European allies, believing that previously banned systems will appear in Europe on a permanent basis. If the United States implements such plans, Russia will consider itself free from the previously assumed unilateral moratorium on the deployment of intermediate-range and shorter-range strike weapons.

US sets sights on co-developing hypersonic weapon interceptor with Japan The US and Japan are forging ahead with their intention to jointly create weapons that would be able to shoot down incoming hypersonic missiles. With Russia and China innovating hypersonic weapons on a scale that has left Washington lost in the dust, an ambitious deal was signed on Wednesday between the Pentagon and Japan’s Ministry of Defense. The US Missile Defense Agency (MDA) will be responsible for developing the proposed interceptors, targeting missiles during the glide-phase portion of hypersonic flight. Japan, for its part, would undertake the initiative of creating rocket motors and propulsion components for the hypersonic missile interceptors. Tokyo’s statement lamented the fact that, “missile-related technologies, such as hypersonic weapons, have improved dramatically around Japan," saying that “strengthening the ability to intercept these weapons is an urgent issue.” The project is reportedly scheduled for completion in the 2030s. Reports that the US and Japan plan to allocate more than $3 billion to jointly develop the new interceptor surfaced earlier in the year. Originally, the program was agreed upon by President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in August 2023, during the trilateral summit between the US, Japan, and South Korea.

How Iran's Ballistic Missiles Strike Israel ? The U.S. traced the launch location to a valley south of the Iranian city of Shiraz. Eran has launched its largest-ever attack on Israel, firing 180 ballistic missiles These missiles travelled more than 1000 Miles from this Valley to reach Israel most populated city and military sights. Fattah-2, the successor to the Fattah-1, It was used for the first time and is one of Iran’s advanced missile systems. This missile is equipped with a —inside it is the warhead—which detaches and allows the missile to maneuver and glide at speeds between Mach 5 and 10. The missile has a range of around 1,500 km, only slightly more than its predecessor, the Fattah-1. What sets it apart from other ballistic missiles is its ability to accelerate outside the Earth's atmosphere, while its aerodynamic control surfaces enable steering to evades the famous Arrow Missiles Defense system made by Israel. The allies have now provided the full range of artillery munitions for the 155mm howitzers and the HIMARS launchers. This includes various shells, rockets and missiles, some are cluster and others are unitary warheads. The numbers are classified but are very big numbers. Ukraine will now have tactical, operational and strategic weapons to target Russian command and control, supply chains, air defense systems, airfields, large troop concentrations across the battlefield. These weapons will have a psychologically positive impact on Ukrainian military and civilian populations. They will have both a paychological and material impact on both Russian morale and the Russian ability to wage war. The latest Russian gains will likely cease and Russian casualties and especially high value targets will likely start disappearing at an increasing rate. Increased Ukrainian anti aircraft assets will have to find a way to deal with an increasing number of Russian glide bombs, destroying Russian aircraft far behind the lines prior to launching the glide bombs.

#Ukraine We have discussed the dangers of the presence of the ballistic missiles on the battlefield for Ukraine many times before. The issue is not just about spotting the ballistic missile launchers and neutralizing them. As Russia advances, they are creating a layer of air defense protection for their troops in the occupied territories of Ukraine. This will enhance their offensive strike range. Up until now Russia has been utilizing Russian made Iskander SRBMs in the current theater and has successfully taken out Ukrainian positions, AMD components and depots. Under the blanket of the PVO Russia will utilize the acquired ballistic missile capabilities to effectively target Ukrainian positions in its slow layered offensive. The issue for Ukraine is that as Russia advances and hardens it's AMD formation and ground positions, Ukraine AMD components are being pushed back to avoid being targeted by the Russian ballistic missiles and VVS component; While so, Ukraine has to commit resources and manpower to secure the buffer zone which is required to be able to establish its AMD components aggressively enough to be able to target the incoming russian ballistic missiles in midcourse before they enter terminal phase, given the fact that the current acquired arsenal of the Russian ballistic missiles are categorized as SRBMs (Short Range Ballistic Missiles) with detachable warheads, Taking out the incoming threats in midcourse is the best option, Take note that we also discussed the importance of the ISR and having enough offensive capabilities to be able to target the detected launchers that are coming into position before they assume launch position. The current resources are being spent on creating a defensive line that is NOT, capable of withstanding the incoming ballistic threats. The iranian made ballistic Missiles, suicide and ISR drones have given Russia the offensive edge that it needs to commit to the offensive. The failure to ground the components of the VVS also will be a major advantage for the Russians.
