Mould Trauma The trauma of mould exposure can be multi-factorial but centres around either the exposure itself or the health effects from it.?Join us on March 9th as we consider both of these factors. With regards to the exposure itself we have to consider: Being trapped in social housing/rented property and having mould exposure with concerns for family members and possessions can be extremely traumatising, especially if insufficient action is taken either by the relevant authority or the landlord If exposure has come after a flooding or unexpected water-ingress event this can be overwhelming for someone who just wants life to get back to normal, but then has the logistics to deal with of insurance companies, remediators, replacing possessions and making improvements to minimise risk of repeat Fears of an exposure repeat, especially if there has been a flooding event, or someone is moving to a new social housing/rental property With regards to the health effects: The stress of having to contend with remediating an environment can feel like a mountain to climb, but that stress may be compounded by changes in brain chemistry due to neuro-inflammatory processes from exposure.?We can look to markers such as FKBP5 and low VEGF to better understand risk of suicide ideation and increased risk of a trauma response to exposure The metabolic fall-out;?changes in insulin receptor sensitivity and leptin receptor sensitivity can have a significant impact, as well as contributing to changes in glycolysis pathway activity and down-stream hormone output.?The physiological trauma of this cannot be underestimated Immune and inflammatory activity; with rising cytokine levels alongside with T reg, MAP kinase, Toll-like receptor, B and T cell changes the resulting inflammatory cascade can impact on any body system. For some this activity can affect their micro-vascular health leading to risk of further chronic brain changes such as atrophy and die-back neuropathy For others, the immune and inflammatory activity can contribute to the trauma of mould -related allergy and asthma, which can be hard to control when triggered by an environmental source in the home.?Children are especially vulnerable to this, which in turn can be traumatising for parents Finally, there is the trauma of chronic mould-related illness frequently being an invisible illness.?Patients can feel misunderstood, visiting many healthcare practitioners before hopefully navigating their way to someone that can break down the pathophysiology for them.?Are you that practitioner right now, or do you aspire to be that??Whether as a screener, coach, delivering therapeutics or medical treatment, we can all aspire to be the change for someone impacted by potentially harmful environmental exposure. When biochemistry is driving trauma, is just focusing on dealing with the stress itself going to be enough? Join us on March 9th as Dr Lauren Sparks presented on Mould Trauma.
Dr Eric Dorninger is delivering an additional?free webinar on Thursday 22nd February at 7-8pm.??This is a primer for our Conference on March 9th.
