FAIR Health, Inc., the national, independent nonprofit, today announced collaborations with clinical sites at four universities under a national initiative generously funded by The John A. Hartford Foundation (JAHF). The academic centers are Penn Medicine, The Ohio State University, Emory University and the University of Rochester Medical Center. As part of this groundbreaking effort, clinicians at the four sites, each of which have achieved Age-Friendly Health Systems recognition, are engaging older patients and caregivers at the point of care with healthcare engagement and shared decision-making (SDM) tools provided by FAIR Health, which are available on FAIR Health for Older Adults (fairhealtholderadults.org). In light of Lord Darzi's recent report on the NHS, it's crucial to reassess how community and primary care are structured. This report presents a significant opportunity to discuss whether community trusts should be reorganised, with substantial parts of their portfolio managed by General Practice. Many of these areas are under block contracts, that commissioners seem unable to break up, and that are very difficult to show value for money.? GPs have consistently demonstrated their deep understanding of their patients and communities, enabling them to swiftly adapt resources and services to meet patient needs. Unlike other healthcare sectors, General Practice has a track record of not operating at a deficit, highlighting its efficiency and effectiveness in resource management. This moment calls for a constructive dialogue on leveraging the strengths of General Practice to enhance community care, ensuring that services are both patient-centered and economically sustainable. The responses to the Health and Care Services Bill consultation have now been published ?? https://ow.ly/5Uqo50UAYbI The aim of the consultation was to gather views on some of the big themes that will form the basis of the Bill, like the right to choice and privacy. There were 240 responses which will help shape four of the main areas of focus – service planning, record sharing, service improvement and empowering patients. The DHSC is grateful to all those who took time to respond to the consultation, as work continues on the policy development using the feedback gathered, Further public consultation will be published mid-2025 with a focus on specific issues relating to delivery of health and care services.
