Exciting developments have been happening over the past few weeks! ?? We’re thrilled to introduce our new partnership project, "Conch in the Classroom," launched in Grand Bahama and funded by the McPike-Zima Foundation. In collaboration with Florida Atlantic Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute and EARTHCARE, we’ve implemented a new curriculum (grades 3-6) across five government primary schools. Approximately 150 students are engaging in hands-on learning about the queen conch. Each school features an aquarium with two juvenile conch, and EARTHCARE Executive Director Gail Woon, along with dedicated volunteers, teachers, and principals, is actively implementing the program. A big thank you to PI Megan Davis, Co-PIs Gail Woon and Becky Holt, and Education Coordinator Amanda Matthews for their outstanding work! Learn more at: McPike-Zima Foundation

The attack on public schools is an attack on equity in our education system. Traditional public school districts in Ohio serve more than 1.8 million students and employ more than 245,000 Ohioans. An investment in our public schools is an investment in our nation’s 50 million public school students. #fundpublicschools #nationalpublicschoolsweek

In a recent edition of Exchange Every Day dedicated to embracing families, communities, and culture, Monica Wells, our family and community program administrator, shared her deep connection to families and communities and how it positively impacts children's success. "Strong, authentic relationships between our families, students, and educators are key. We must speak life into our students, cheer them on, teach them the skills, and provide the tools they need to be prepared for the future. We must show examples of the power, importance, and necessity of community." Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gc7ur8uu

Recognizing the power of place, acknowledging the power the place, tapping into the power the place, and learning to see and listen to the stories to be discovered in the places we live, work, and travel is fundamental to CSCR's mission. Engaging students in authenic civic and scientific issues prominent in the local community is not only a process that prepares students to be stewards of community resources, it informs all of us about our shared principles and values; it enables us to collectively advance the Common Good. This shared objective, grounded in our Constitution, is equally present in the vision statement of Cohasset Public Schools: "empowering students to improve communities." https://conta.cc/4f6mjOB

I spy with my little eye something familiar in this picture- front and center! I love seeing my book, Support and Retain Educators of Color, used in the context of pushing forward institutional change. I wrote this book not as a cute intellectual exercise but a how-to guide for education and organizational leaders to cultivate workplaces that affirm and retain educators of color. This Friday, I will be presenting insights from my book surrounding affinity group implementation at Center for Black Educator Development Black Men in Education Convening.
