???? We're at Spin Qubit 6! We have a talk on Wednesday from Lead Quantum Engineer Mark A. I. Johnson who will present Quantum Motion's effort to develop reproducible and scalable silicon spin qubits with a focus on mass characterisation. And we have a poster presentation from Quantum Theorist Christian Binder and Quantum Software Engineer Jack Turner on their novel, fast, and stable numerical approach to study electron shuttling. If you are interested in finding out more about our work or working with us, reach out to any of our team during the conference!

2024 is a key year for #quantumtechnology. The noisy part of the #NISQ moniker is becoming less so (which means more powerful machines), NIST is finalizing the post quantum crypto algorithms (after years of global notice and comment), and there are solid quantum success stories coming out of industry, academia, and government every week.
Today, we celebrate the role that quantum science and technology plays in our everyday lives. Happy World Quantum Day! At?Quantinuum,?we are on a mission to use quantum technologies to positively impact the world. With our H-Series quantum computers and world-leading software solutions, we will work with the global community of researchers, engineers, and scientists to push boundaries and solve industry’s most complex computational problems. Next year is 100 years since Heisenberg, Born, Jordan and Schr?dinger discovered modern quantum mechanics, a theory to explain a number of hitherto inexplicable inconsistencies in observed natural phenomena. Quantum mechanics led to the most tumultuous century of scientific discovery and technical advances, which continue to shape our world. Today’s #WorldQuantumDay invites us to look forward to 2025, the United Nations’ International Year of Quantum Science and Technology. We need more bright minds than ever to embrace the potential of quantum technologies. We need public engagement, inspired by ever more impressive demonstrations of what’s becoming possible, to support the coming decade of what is almost certain to be described as a “revolution”. The time has come for everyone to take some time to read up on quantum computing, because if we are not to repeat the mistakes of past industrial revolutions, the key ingredient in this one must be universal participation for universal benefit. It’s time to engage with the quantum revolution that’s now picking up speed. If you know me, haven’t yet given much thought to quantum computing, but want to know more — please DM me and let’s start a conversation!

Bob and his team have done a huge amount to reframe quantum physics, beginning 20 years ago by developing a mathematically rigorous formal method for understanding quantum mechanics using pictures. ZX-calculus is now widely used among quantum computing professionals, and one of the glorious side-effects is that it makes quantum theory and quantum computing more accessible to non-experts (like me!). It’s a wonderful example of building public understanding for #WorldQuantumDay

Off to Washington DC to promote Quantum in Pictures in US governmental circles, representing Elevate Quantum, the quantum ecosystem of Colorado-New Mexico-Wyoming, which has about the highest concentration of quantum in US, and is home to our Quantinuum hardware development sites.

A team of researchers from Illinois and other institutions plan to build a high-performance 16-node quantum networking testbed over the next year capable of distributing entanglement at rates more than five orders of magnitude greater than current approaches and over distances of up to 100 kilometers. They're one of 11 teams supported by the NSF National Quantum Virtual Laboratory initiative. ?? https://buff.ly/49IJqgM

Just over a year ago, we started conceptualizing an idea to build a quantum computer at the American Physical Society March Meeting 2024. Thanks to our team's dedication and some help from Maybell Quantum and QuantWare, we saw our dream become a reality! From setup to generating live data took only 48 hours, around-the-clock power, and tons of collaboration within our team and with everyone that helped make it possible. We were proud to discuss this data at one of the scientific sessions at the same conference where we performed the measurements. Aside from being a fun experiment, this achievement allowed us to showcase that with the Qblox plug-and-play solution, combined with a cryogenic, it's possible to set up a fully-functioning quantum computer in only two days instead of two weeks and start performing reliable experiments, too. Do you remember, remember the 5th of November...? Fireworks, flexible qubits and even a Coldplay reference* feature in my new blog post! I'm excited to release my first Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC) content about the flexibility of superconducting qubits. Entitled "A Sky Full of Synthetic Stars: How the Flexibility of Superconducting Qubits Sparks Innovation", it's inspired by the firework display I watched for the UK's "Bonfire night" celebration, and conversations over my first few weeks at OQC. I give a high-level overview of how we can innovate and iterate on superconducting qubit designs, including the story of how that process has been developing at OQC. Link to the blog on the OQC website in the comments, hope you enjoy! *did you spot it in this LinkedIn post?

The group of CQT Principal Investigator Gao Weibo and their collaborators have achieved what is known as near-unity quantum efficiency in their single photon emitter made from two-dimensional materials. It is the first time near-unity has been achieved in 2D materials. Single photon emitters are needed for quantum technologies such as photonic quantum computation and quantum communication. Having a high quantum efficiency means that the device emits a photon on demand. The team’s novel approach reached a quantum efficiency of 76.4% on average and more than 90% for some emitters, approaching unity quantum efficiency of 100%.

?? Fujitsu has joined forces with QuTech to create a blueprint for a scalable quantum computer. ? ?? Our collaborative approach is comprehensive, encompassing everything from the development of physical components to the error-correction algorithms necessary to operate the computer. ? ?? At the heart of our collaborative research into scaling are high-quality qubits with extended coherence times and the creation of optical connections between qubit modules. ? ?? Together, we have already achieved significant scientific success. For instance, we've demonstrated the fault-tolerant operation of a logical qubit. ? Find out more about our collaborative research on qutech.nl/fujitsu.
