Our approach to developing a holistic EV Powertrain conversion system was born from the frustration of attempting to cobble together parts to convert an internal combustion engine to an EV. Instead of sourcing used parts and batteries, and configuring a system with cobbled together electronics that do not talk to one another, we designed an EV conversion system using all new components with battery packs we manufacture in-house, and electronics that come fully programmed and ready to install with no calibration required. Vehicle electrification requires more than just a battery + battery management system (BMS)! ? ?? This is what unites us battery engineers and hardware engineers to create electric vehicles! ?? Two additional components are: ? The Onboard Charger & DC/DC Converter that enables battery charging ? The Traction Inverter that converts current from the battery from DC to AC to power the electric motor(s) that drive the vehicle It was so awesome to see Texas Instruments' technology at #CES2024, and get the VIP tour of it with Mark Ng! They are responsible for converting AC power from an external power source, such as a charging station or household outlet, into DC to charge the vehicle's high-voltage battery pack. They do more than just draw and convert current, they also can vary their charging power so that your EV is optimally, efficiently, and safely charged, they are designed to comply with various charging standards (AC1, AC2, DC fast-charging, etc.), and even help control the charging port of the vehicle and its locking and charge-status indicators. ?? Traction inverters are incredible! They don't just convert power, they control motor speed and torque, enable regenerative braking, provide efficiency and power management, and include safety features like overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, short circuit protection, and temperature monitoring. Traction inverters integrate with the vehicle control systems, including the powertrain control unit (PCU) and, our beloved, BMS, allowing for seamless communication and coordination between inverter, motor, battery, and other vehicle components. ??
