My career is what I make of it. I choose to make my career make an impact beyond the billable hour. This weekend I sat with a resident (and his partner and their pretty amazing dog) of a long-standing disenfranchised community and went through deed after deed after deed after deed. The 1908 plat has never been updated, and the properties have changed hands amongst relatives and neighbors so many times that it is mind boggling. Then there are rights-of-way that haven’t been recorded because the men of the community literally hand dug the trenches and roads. Utility easements that don’t exist despite utilities being all over the place in order to serve a community in need. This community and its residents deserve professional assistance. One property owner with questions. One weekend where I had time to try to guide him in getting answers. One step at a time to get long-standing questions the answers to address current issues. One step closer to a neighborhood bridging gaps. One weekend of time well spent. Could I have done this without my present career? No. Should I withold that knowledge only for the paying client? Absolutely not. My career isn’t just about the job. My career is how I live my life. I encourage professionals around the globe to use their talent and knowledge to #volunteer, to #give, and ro #serve.

Why you need Community Volunteers (during field work)? For 5 days Community Volunteers were trained on GBV concepts, Community Mobilization and Referral Pathways . . As the Program officer, you carry the message, you work on the implementation, you write the reports……. but all your work would be to waste if the community members cannot feel you are part of them……this is why you need Community Volunteers….. One good thing about having community volunteers is that they can pass THE MESSAGE effectively….. This is why you select indigenes of the communities to be trained…. . .
