To further consider real world applicability, a 300 pound person could easily lose the same if they cut back on salt and retain less water. That’s an improvement, don’t get me wrong. Maybe even better than fat loss. I continue to believe these drugs are getting way more attention than they deserve. All of this just further points to the massive marketing efforts. People have been convinced they are way more miraculous than they really are.. Entirely unimpressive outcomes for $1000 a month. Common sense implies that if a simple, affordable test is available – which determines in advance - if a medication is going to help you versus cause you harm – most people would choose advance testing. This is especially true when the risks associated with medications are extremely serious or potentially life threatening. Examples: DPYD/DPD deficiency -?Patients with DPD deficiency receiving fluoropyrimidines (5FU, capecitabine) may experience fatal toxicities. HLA -?Patients with specific HLA results receiving abacavir, allopurinol, carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenytoin, fosphenytoin etc. ?– may be predisposed to severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reactions including SJS/TEN. In Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and other countries - testing prior to receiving fluoropyrimidines is standard of care. This is not true in the US. Pharmacogenetic testing (currently offered by many pharmacists via a painless cheek swab) provides significant information for prescribers and patients regarding the safe optimization of medication selection and dosing. #pharmacists #pharmacogenetics #pgx

Plan: Discontinue Metoprolol and switch to a cardioselective beta-blocker like Atenolol or consider an alternative class of antihypertensives.
