One of the wins #CrowdStrike scored during Friday incident and its aftermath is the demonstration of its ability to both respond & communicate in an effective manner. Within less than 2 hours on Friday not only the incident was acknowledged, a fix as well was provided, and communicating with #transparency dispelled most of the #fake claims around the incident being a #databreach ... Nonetheless the claims resurfaced again with the #hacktivist group #USDoD claiming they have CrowdStrike #IoCs #database yesterday. In the below link CrowdStrike responded and denied this ... But to me there was something very obvious and it saddens me #InfoSec professionals keeps falling for #Conspiracy theories instead of being the rock on which #disinformation breaks: since when hackers release their own IoCs instead of releasing customers data!? If USDoD really #hacked CrowdStrike that's what they would ne doing. I am expecting the coming 30 days to be full of such disinformation campaigns ... And this is natural ... We learnt the hard way that 90% of #hacking claims are nothing true ... If I paid every #malicious email sender who claimed he hacked me and have my files ...my whole family would be bankrupt by now! #InformationSecurityManagement #InformationSecurity #CyberSecurity #InfoSec #CISO https://lnkd.in/dCKNc6iY

There is a massive gap in awareness and understanding in the risk/cyber space that is compounded by for-profit entities that brand themselves cybersecurity companies. Selling products and services to maximize shareholder profit is distinctly different than the function of securing the network through policy and practice.
