When I got home last night, I wasn't in the mood for being Dad. Sometimes, you just want to chill. But then I remembered a question I heard last week. "How can you lean more in to fun and play?" I'm loving this question at the moment. Because when I'm having fun, the more creative and amazing everything is. So I snapped out of it. And I declared 6PM "The most fun hour of the day." I proceeded to dance like a lunatic with the kids, play twister and act out an episode of Bluey with some figurines. At bath time, my daughter taught me an Abba song they'd learned in school. "Su-per per. Troo-per per!" A couple of hours flew by. We had a good laugh. Everyone went to bed happy. Beats forcing them to watch TV and being a grumpy sod. So, I've set a daily alarm for 6PM. Which is now officially "The most fun hour of the day." There's a lot of power in living from a context like that. And this doesn't only apply to home life. How would you show up if you made your business more fun? - What content would you put out? - How would you describe your service? - What would you do to make your clients smile? I wonder.... Would coming from that place would make more impact on your bottom line? Compared to a serious outreach strategy or content template? So... Tuesday night. Both my sons Leo and Lucas went to bed before 9 PM. A moment for me & my wife to watch a good movie I thought. We selected a romantic comedy from the early 2010s. (The movie was called “About Time”; I will spoil some of the film details, beware.) The story is about a guy who discovers from his dad that the male in his family can travel back in time. Dad advises against using the power to get money or power, so he uses the power to find love. He learns about the power. He uses it. He misuses it. He learns. He suffers. He accepts that sometimes there are things that are better not to be changed. He gets married. Before his dad dies, he tells him his big secret in life → he relives every single day of his life, not to change anything but to enjoy and appreciate the things he didn’t pay attention to the first time. A short time after that, he stops using his powers to go back in time. Why? Because he learns you don’t need to live things twice to enjoy them. You can be immensely happy, enjoying the moment and living and loving the things and people around you. It was a great reminder. A hidden gem. It sounds something like this: ”The best preparation for the future is to live as if there were none.” Enjoy today. Embrace everything you have. You never know what might happen tomorrow. Many years ago I saw a couple A-list actors walk out of a night club. There was a street performer playing his guitar for tips just outside. He looked like he was possibly part of the local homeless community. This individual took $5 from his "tip" guitar case and handed it to one of these actors. The actor took it, and they both got into their blacked out SUV and drove off. Did the actor need it? No, the movie they were both in recently was a top box office name. Did it show the store performer's appreciation for the actor more? Infinitely, that $5 dollars was a meal, or two for this person. Considering this actor's net worth is estimated at $250 million, I think the value is disproportionate. Did I lose respect for that actor that day? Dramatically. Do I understand today that it was important to the individual to show their appreciation. Yes, after many years. What is important and valuable to you may not be equivalent to another. However it is your time, energy, money that you place the ultimate worth on when deciding to give it away. Do what you feel is right, ignore what the world thinks. In the end it is what you have given and how you feel regarding it that matters, not the noise of the world, the observations of another on the street watching you give a large portion of your worth away. That is your decision. Be confident and comfortable being yourself and what brings you happiness. Be kind, share love, find joy.

Your customers are people, just like you. They have fears. They have big goals. They have insecurities. What does this mean—especially when you’re selling to them?? It means you want to be more aware of their “stuff” than your own. You want to notice when they smile and perk up and when they seem less engaged in what you’re saying. You want to ease their fears, get clear on their big goals, and have compassion for their insecurities. I know you want to get this right. It can be hard not to keep your own inner voice quiet or take things personally and start spiraling in self-doubt. The quick fix is just to slow down and pour your energy into them - their fears, goals, and insecurities. When you do, you make them the star of the show… …and when they feel like the star, they’re more likely to buy.

Just start with kindness, a listening ear, and the courage to let others be seen and heard.
