This is worth a 1-minute watch, $5 going straight to saving the kids... 5 kids saved in the blink of an eye - great! The problem with this really funny scene? If 100% of donations go towards the beneficiaries (saving 5 kids), who pays for the 3 staff salaries in this scene? Or the fuel of the vehicle? The Op-Ex (running cost/overhead/admin) constraints that many charities/non-profits are working under is crippling - leading to burnout, high staff turnover and organizations that struggle to get by. Are you like me and are looking for ways to give back to others? I have volunteered at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) many times over the years. A few months ago, I stopped in and asked what more could I do beyond packing meals and donating money. As it turns out, they also need folks to speak to organizations (schools, churches, businesses....etc.) to inform them about FMSC. Recently, I was at an event where I spoke to high school students about FMSC and why what they do is so important. Did you know that 1 in 9 children go hungry each day? What's worse, an estimated 6200 children die each day from starvation. I think many of us 'know' this but are so far removed, that we are really numb to this crisis. I know the vast majority of the high schools students I spoke with were very much unaware. FMSC receives no government funding. They are 100% supported by volunteers (time to pack these meals and money to buy the food). They strive to keep administrative costs down and over 90% of the monetary donations go directly into the food costs. **Riding with Purpose: Wonders & Worries and the MS 150 Journey** Recently, I had the privilege of cycling 150 miles with the Tacodeli team in the MS 150. The event, hosted by the National MS Society, is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Multiple Sclerosis (MS). MS is a serious illness, and Wonders & Worries' mission is to help kids who have a parent with a serious illness or injury. With the overlap between these two organizations, this ride held special significance. Every turn of the pedal reminded me of the resilience and strength of the families W&W serves. MS is a relentless illness, and so is the spirit of our children at Wonders & Worries. By participating in MS 150, I aimed to bridge the gap between the fight against MS and the support for children impacted by any serious illness. The funds and awareness raised through this event testify to what we can achieve together. I ride for hope. I ride for strength. I ride for the children of Wonders & Worries, who inspire us daily.
