What is Carlo Ancelotti's secret to his longevity and consistent success at the highest levels? This seems to be the answer.
There are managers and there are coaches.
To be able to unreservedly say that the decisive thing is their quality and commitment indicates a certain level of trust in the players. This, instead of micromanaging these professionals, enables the players to play the game creatively and in a way that is enjoyable. It trusts the players to carry out the training plans. It trusts the players to cohesively behave in response to different situations. It is empowering.
Of course, players need coaching. Some may have no idea what to do in positional play et cetera, but that could have been addressed during training itself.
I am not advocating that this approach works. After all, in football, many factors contribute to the outcome of a match: the available infrastructure, the players, culture and more. What's essential is for managers/coaches to understand the needs of the club and devise ways to improve them. #psychologicalskills #sportpsychology #GTsnippets
