Leading the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University has been one of the greatest honors of my career. Together, we have built something extraordinary — empowering cities to tackle their toughest challenges and demonstrating that public innovation is a true catalyst for change. That’s why my decision to step into a new role is bittersweet. As of March 21, I will step down as the founding Executive Director of BCPI to serve as the Deputy Mayor of the new Office of Strategic Partnerships for the City of Los Angeles – answering the call to help a city I love recover and rebuild and drive success during pivotal moments for the region including the World Cup, the Super Bowl, and the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics. I am incredibly proud of what we’ve built at BCPI, and I am confident the work will continue to thrive under Dr. Francisca Rojas, who will serve as Interim Executive Director. As BCPI’s Academic Director since 2021, she has been a dedicated leader in urban innovation and governance and will now serve as Interim Executive Director. Thanks to our incredible partners and my outstanding team. #PublicInnovation is a movement, and its impact will only grow from here.
