NPAs are a real potential future for utilities trying to understand what tomorrow means for their gas infrastructure. As this paper, and our own research notes, the obligation to serve and local/state regulations can be a difficult barrier to getting all to agree to move off of their gas service on any given line. The customer is at the center of this equation. The energy industry spent decades pushing customers to the 'safer and cleaner' gas. So to expect customers to adopt electrification or non-gas alternatives in a handful of years is a tall order. Do we have time for decades of coordinated decarbonization education, no. But will this transition happen without fully engaging the end user, no. Let's get to know our customers better. Let's learn their decision-making better, let's build a coordinated approach around that. Then we can equitably advance a necessary decarbonization plan. #decarbonization #npa #electrification https://lnkd.in/ep3zztJM

“The German government has announced plans to hold tenders for 5.5GW of new #hydrogen-ready gas-fired power plants and 2GW of “comprehensive H2-ready modernisations” of existing gas power stations at the end of this year or the “beginning of 2025”.

Energy grids like district heating but also district cooling are more commonly used today in order to make use of the waste heat and thereby increase the exploitation of the energy content in a fuel. The energy flows must be well monitored and managed. The energy being sold or procured need an accurate measurement for accounting purposes meeting local custody transfer requirements. A number of calibrated and certified instruments compliant to the measuring instruments directive MID and other standards such as OIML are available for the measurement of energy flows. Last week, I attended and presented at the the International Gas Research Conference (IGRC2024) in Banff. IGRC2024 is organized by the International Gas Union, a consortium of 150 natural gas operators spanning 80 countries. I presented a paper on "Distributed Energy Resources System for Single-Family Homes in Cold-Climates". This Innovative DER system uses a mCHP integrated with a Cold-Climate ASHP and backup gas boiler to provide electricity, space heating and cooling and DHW in residential buildings. This DER system provides resiliency to homeowners especially during power outages, help gas utilities improve energy efficiency of gas usage in residential buildings, and support electric utilities with peak load reduction without building new power plants. Happy to discuss if you want to learn more about this innovative DER system and benefits it can bring to different stakeholders. #decarbonization #resiliency #energyefficiency

Great 2 minute summary of the innovative dual energy partnership between Hydro-Québec and énergir. After two years in the making, most energy experts salute this partnership as one of the most progressive way to decarbonize in cold climate jurisdictions.
Hydro-Québec's dual energy proposal has been approved by the regulator, but what does this entail? Here's how electricity and gas utility customers will be affected... #HydroQuébec #Electricity #ZeroCarbon

?? Politics Update | The German government has just passed the new #Kraftwerkssicherheitsgesetz (Power Plant Security Act). This legislation is built on two main pillars: 1?? Decarbonization: ? Construction of 5 GW of new H2-ready gas #powerplants ? Modernization of 2 GW #H2 ready facilities. ? Establishment of 500 MW pure hydrogen power plants and 500 MW long-term storage. ? Mandatory switch to hydrogen for these plants within 8 years. 2?? Supply Security: ? Development of an additional 5 GW of new gas power plants to step in during low wind and sun periods. ? These new plants will be predominantly located in southern Germany to enhance #gridstability. The first tenders are scheduled for late 2024/early 2025. Federal Minister Robert Habeck highlights that the new legislation is supposed to particularly leverage demand flexibility and #energystorage - preparing our #energysystem for infeed of more #renewables and ensuring a secure energy supply. ? https://lnkd.in/dtRhvSr6

Clean Energy Investor Group is calling for a thorough review of the Marginal Loss Factor (MLF) methodology after Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) today released its final MLF calculations for FY25. ? The results confirm that key generators suffer large and unpredictable fluctuations in MLFs which lead to significant swings in revenue for investors. ? To address this volatility and improve predictability for investors, CEIG is calling for a review of the current MLF methodology to assess whether amendments are required to better reflect losses. ? CEIG looks forward to collaboratively working with AEMO on this issue to better support investors in the renewable energy sector and support Australia’s clean energy transition. ? #CEIG #AEMO #MLF #energytransition ? ?
