Today, we are celebrating the birthday of our SRC Manager, Mr. Jibran Abbas. I’ve written an article about him and his accomplishments in "Let’s Connect". Additionally, I’d like to share a story from 2021, which I’ll title, "How We Evolve Over Time and What Drives Our Change." *** Are you hesitant to admit when you’re wrong? In 2021, while I was a certified technician responsible for technical publications and records, I worked in two locations: first - bench in the Repair Shop area and another in the admin area. During that time, I repaired several GEN 4 units and I stopped bringing my laptop to the Repair Shop area. The laptop was necessary for referencing technical publications. This practice was flagged during a random audit conducted by the SRC manager, who pointed out that it was not compliant with our processes and regulations. Since then, I have changed my role and now work in a different department. However, I wanted to share this incident, as I have read various articles on human factors, particularly on complacency, which I believe was a factor in this case. I am bringing this to attention to emphasize that all processes must be followed, and technical publications should always be readily accessible to technicians. It's crucial for technicians to avoid multitasking and focus solely on repairs to ensure safety. The story is being shared with a three-year delay. Sometimes, we may not fully grasp on time the importance of the system or the message that the SRC manager was trying to convey. I hope this article will be used for training purposes. Update on the flying side of my career—last weekend I passed my instrument checkride. The instrument rating allows pilots to fly into clouds, above 18,000ft, and on instrument flight plans solely by reference to flight instruments when the exterior conditions don’t allow for any visibility outside the cockpit. Instrument ratings are typically known as one of the hardest to get as they demand 40 hours of flight time solely referencing instruments and processing some of the most complex parts of flight plans. Now that the instrument rating is checked off, the next stop on the route is the commercial license.
