?? Celebrating International Men's Day?? Today is International Men's Day, and the theme is role models. There are many great role models out there and for this post I wanted to celebrate some of the greatest role models I know, male allies. Allies play a vital role in creating more inclusive and supportive places to work and a better society. Their commitment to positive action uplifts everyone around them, setting an example of what a great role model looks like. Here are just a few of the impactful actions that I’ve seen men taking to contribute positively to the working world: ??Living inclusive behaviours - Advocating for equity of opportunity and amplifying the voices of all underrepresented groups. ?? Championing people when they aren’t in the room - Appreciating everyone’s unique strengths and, importantly, championing individuals when they are not in the room. ??Listening and Learning - Listening to the experiences of others and seeking to understand different perspectives. Becoming self-aware of where they can improve and pioneering change in the working world. ??Taking Action - Calling out inappropriate behaviour and micro aggressions, and standing up against discrimination or exclusion when they see it. ??Leading with Integrity - Embodying honesty, fairness, compassion and respect, and inspiring others to follow suit. A commitment to fostering inclusive environments where we are creating positive change in the every day systems that no longer work for any of us, including men, will help us to help make the work place and world a better place. Allyship is all about action, so today we’re sharing our tips on how to accelerate allyship within your organisation: ? Establish the ‘why’ - what change you would like to see as a result of increased allyship ? Know that even small actions can have a big impact ? Recognise that new habits take time to form, and old habits can create big barriers to change ? Provide training and support on how people can become better workplace allies – often people don’t know where to start ? Encourage those in senior positions to role-model inclusive behaviours and actions that support others from the top ? Don’t be afraid to make mistakes! ? Build allies objectives into performance evaluations – celebrating and rewarding those who actively support others will have a cascading effect.? ? ?? International Men’s Day: A Tribute to Resilience and Responsibility ?? Today, we shine a light on International Men’s Day, a day that often doesn’t receive the same recognition as its counterparts for women. While the world dedicates several days to celebrating and empowering women (and rightly so), let’s take a moment to reflect on the untold stories and silent struggles of men. Men are the pillars of strength, responsibility, and resilience in many aspects of society. Yet, they are often celebrated far less frequently and far less loudly. 1. Men who work tirelessly to provide for their families. 2. Men who mentor, lead, and inspire the next generation. 3. Men who face societal pressures to always be “strong,” often masking their vulnerabilities. In a world that is rapidly evolving, men too are adapting—shaping new narratives, taking on roles that break traditional stereotypes, and contributing immensely to building more inclusive societies. But let’s also acknowledge the challenges many men face: ?? Balancing societal expectations with personal well-being. ?? Navigating mental health challenges in a culture where vulnerability can still be stigmatized. ?? Striving to redefine what it means to “be a man” in the modern world. Today, as we celebrate International Men’s Day, let us not forget that men deserve appreciation, support, and encouragement too. Their contributions, struggles, and triumphs are just as deserving of recognition. To all the men out there: You are seen. You are valued. You are celebrated. Let’s build a world where every individual—regardless of gender—has the opportunity to thrive, grow, and be celebrated for who they are and what they bring to the table. Celebrating International Men’s Day: The Role of Men as DE&I Champions Today, on International Men’s Day, we at DLL recognize the vital role men play in fostering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) in our workplaces and communities. While DE&I initiatives often focus on creating opportunities for underrepresented groups, it’s important to remember that everyone has a role in advancing these goals—including men. Men often hold positions of influence in decision-making spaces. By using their platforms to advocate for equity and inclusion, they become powerful allies and champions for change. In fact, a 2022 study by Catalyst found that companies with active male allies were 25% more likely to see improvement in organizational culture and 30% more likely to achieve gender balance in leadership roles. Here are just a few ways men can lead the charge for diversity: ? Advocating for representation: Speaking up to ensure diverse voices are included in decision-making processes. ? Mentorship and sponsorship: Actively mentoring individuals from underrepresented groups and advocating for their advancement. ? Challenging bias: Addressing unconscious bias in everyday interactions and organizational practices. ? Listening and learning: Engaging in conversations about equity and inclusion to deepen understanding and support. Creating inclusive environments is a shared responsibility. Men, as allies and advocates, play an essential part in driving systemic change and helping to build workplaces where everyone feels valued and supported.
