From Singapore to Japan, broadcasting from Imabari, our Technical Director, Steen Sander Jacobsen, shares his insights from conversations with shipowners and charterers across Asia. Through our travels in the Far East we explore the status of shipping’s energy transition, highlighting the current concerns of split incentives which is one key barrier that needs to be managed in order to make the necessary technical upgrades. Through the technical, commercial and regulatory studies we do in Njord, we help owners and charterers create transparency and strategies that align cost, benefit, and responsibility, ensuring that the transition is commercially viable for all parties involved.

We met with TV host Yana Brenzey in the studio within a single telethon on the ICTV channel. We talked about the GreenDIM Program and the first results, in particular, about the conditions of participation in the Program, the compensation provided by the EEF, the timing of projects and their payback periods. ?? What the GreenDIM Program gives people and what support is provided? The Program covers part of the cost of installing solar power plants and heat pumps - key elements for an energy-saving house. This allows not only to save on utility bills, but also to make your house less dependent on external energy resources, which is especially important in war conditions. Such support is available to everyone who is ready to take a step towards the energy independence of their house, even if they are not experts in technical issues. Is the installation of solar power plants helpful in matters of energy security? In summer, the installation of solar power plants is a matter of economy. And in winter it is, first of all, a matter of energy security, because the solar station provides uninterrupted operation of pumps, lighting, elevators in some cases, providers for at least 12 hours.? ??What to choose: a generator or a solar power plant? Generator is uneconomical and non-ecological. In addition, you need a qualified person who constantly serves this generator. It should be understood that it has the property of periodically breaking within one heating season, besides there are large fuel costs, etc. So, our advice is definitely the installation of a solar power plant. Moreover, there are programs that provide compensation (and this is not only the GreenDIM Program but also there are auxiliary local support programs in communities). ?? Dynamics and activity of regions In many areas, the Program has found a significant response: numerous local communities are already actively introducing energy-saving technologies, showing an example for other regions. Kyiv is still an absolute leader, but activity is no less observed in such cities as Lviv, Mykolaiv, Rivne, etc. The GreenDIM Program aims not only to help individual houses, but also to create a positive experience that can be scaled at the national level. ?? How to become a participant of the Program? The EEF provides support so that everyone can get appropriate advice and step-by-step assistance in choosing and installing equipment. In addition, there are large associations of HOAs in cities that help informationally. There is also the government website ‘EnergoSvidomi’, which helps not only HOAs to deal with the steps of participation, but also business and private households.
