Good afternoon everyone. There’s a lot of misinformation and disinformation about Federal Government spending, how it works and how can non-Government people get information. We are sharing three websites that will give you access to everything you will ever want to know about Federal Government spending, taxation and revenue sources. You can go right now to https://www.congress.gov and search Appropriations bills, which are spending bills. The data goes back to 1972, so you can see every Federal spending bill that has passed into law since 1972. You can also go to https://lnkd.in/emNB9zWH and https://lnkd.in/g5J2KAC and find out how Federally approved spending bills are implemented. This is publicly available information, free to access and no one has prevented anyone from accessing information on how taxpayer money is spent. You can download data from these sites, create custom reports, and it’s not difficult to use. Please try it and have fun.

New blog! How can Congress put teeth into deadlines for the president's budget request and national security strategy? By not letting the president give the State of the Union address until he gives Congress those reports. That way, Congress' important annual work could start on time, and the SOTU wouldn't be such a ridiculous spectacle. That's exactly what new legislation from Sen. Joni Ernst and Rep. Buddy Carter would do -- the Send Us Budget Materials and International Tactics In Time (SUBMIT IT) Act -- as I describe here. https://lnkd.in/ehuBHbPX

As members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives prepare to reconvene in Washington D.C. post-Easter recess, the clock ticks loudly towards Election 2024. With roughly seven months remaining, the push to wrap up the 118th congressional agenda intensifies, spotlighting must-pass legislation including the annual federal spending bills, the farm bill, and key programs like SNAP, TANF, and the NFIP. Amidst this urgency, the spotlight also shines on ambitious legislative efforts such as the bipartisan Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act and crucial funding discussions surrounding Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. As we look forward to what could be accomplished, it's critical to consider what may transition into the hands of the 119th Congress. The use of Continuing Resolutions (CRs) as a stop-gap, a practice with decades of precedence, looms large, potentially impacting the timely progress of various legislative items. This period is a critical juncture for both immediate and long-term U.S. policy directions. As professionals, staying informed and engaged with these developments is key. How will these legislative efforts shape the economic and social landscape? Join the discussion: https://lnkd.in/eAeFtbrS #Congress #Legislation #Election2024 #USPolicy

Proposed "Opt-In" period for ministers who elected out of Social Security. Many ministers have elected to remove themselves from the Social Security and Medicare systems, thereby avoiding the payment of self-employment taxes on their earnings. This election is irrevocable; however, there have been times in the past when Congress opened a window of opportunity for those ministers to revoke this election and begin paying the self-employment tax. Once again, Congress is considering this. A bipartisan "Clergy Act" has been introduced in the US Senate to allow for the revocation starting in 2026.
