Breaking barriers for Health for All!
I am so excited to share the release of a new comprehensive World Health Organization handbook designed to tackle barriers to effective health service coverage.
This groundbreaking publication is a culmination of years of work and collaboration, and it's a vital resource for achieving universal health coverage.
Key highlights:
??Context: According to recent data, 4.5 billion people lacked full coverage of essential health services in 2021, and 2 billion faced financial hardship in 2019.
??Framework: The handbook applies the Tanahashi framework through an 8-module, mixed-method research approach, focusing on barriers faced by both potential users and non-users of health services. The handbook facilitates the capturing of evidence on the interface between the population and the services.
????????????Target readership: Ideal for technical staff in national and subnational authorities, research institutions, universities, multilateral organizations, NGOs, civil society organizations and patients’ associations.
Why it matters:
This handbook is part of WHO's commitment to equity in the Fourteenth General Programme of Work, 2025-2028 (GPW14), which was adopted by Member States at this year’s World Health Assembly. It provides practical tools for equity-oriented, rights-based and gender responsive planning and programming in health sectors around the world.
