. A Rolex for a 15-year anniversary is a generous and memorable gesture, but not the norm for every company. Team-organized cakes and mementos can be heartfelt, though they might not feel as substantial as other options. I've seen some impressive gifts like customized experiences, luxury items, or significant bonuses. Significant anniversaries can deserve more than just tokens; something memorable can show appreciation effectively. It's important for companies to recognize long service in a meaningful way, balancing recognition with practicality. In recruitment, while money can be a major factor, genuine appreciation and acknowledgment of effort also matter.
My old company gave me a Rolex for my 15th work anniversary. Yeh right ?? ?? ?? My team organised a cake and a nice memento, which they chipped in and paid for. I once saw someone who had done 30 years holding up a paper sign that said Happy 30th anniversary. I saw a coffee cup last week for another. Overall, it's pretty average, and I would expect your company to do more. So, what is the best gift you have seen someone receive, and do you think it should be a big deal with something epic gifted for significant anniversaries? And yes, I still think money talks and bullshit walks in recruitment.... Dean James Rec2Rec #makeyourmove #rec2rec #recruitment #anniversary #recruiting

Reflections on week one at Merit America. I wrapped up my first week at Merit yesterday. In case you didn’t know, they are a four-day workweek organization. Thursdays are known as “Merit Fridays,” I am trying to think of a clever name for my new first Saturday of the three-day weekend. I tend to forget how much drinking from the fire hose the first several weeks of a new job brings. This week was no different. The differences, though, have stood out, and I wanted to call them out here. 1. Everyone is friendly and supportive. There is a tool for colleagues to publicly recognize each other for living the organization's values, and I swear yesterday, I had 20-plus new alerts every time I checked. It is part of the weekly check-ins for staff, and to see all the shout-outs was terrific. 2. The co-CEOs have a BIG vision and aren’t afraid to answer the tough questions. They are open to conversations and hold space on their calendars for staff to share thoughts. How cool is that? CEOs could 100% take a page from their book. 3. A handful of people reached out to introduce themselves AND referenced the authenticity and vulnerability of my job search posts and how much they appreciated them. ?????? y’all, they liked me being me. 4. The organization moves fast. Many big things are coming, and I am thrilled to join the team. I look forward to quickly getting up to speed to add value. For now, I am off to enjoy my first Saturday- and welcome suggestions for what clever name I can use.

Dear Team, As we celebrate our 13th anniversary, I would like to express my gratitude to everyone for creating this brand from scratch. Some individuals enjoy working with reputable brands, while others prefer to establish their own identity in building outstanding brand. I am privileged to work with people who are passionate about building a brand together. I learned numerous lessons over the past 13 years and continuing. I wish to share my learnings of resignation and termination. One of the primary causes for resignations occurs when an organization fails to keep pace with an individual's professional development and evolving needs. One significant factor contributing to terminations is when an individual is unable to meet the organization's evolving growth expectations and advanced requirements. When we address both issues, I wish for our team members not to work tirelessly, but rather to derive insightful lessons from nature to excel as exceptional individuals. Madre needs to explore the full potential of our team members. We are not in the business of being one step ahead of someone else. We are in the business of establishing industry benchmarks.

We might be a little late to the party (blame the holiday wrap-up!), but there’s no way we’re skipping a chance to celebrate Marc Innemée – our December Employee of the Month! ?? Marc, month after month, your name pops up in the nominations, and it’s never just about what you do (which, let’s be honest, is pretty incredible). It’s about ?????? ?????? ??????. You’re the calm in the storm, the teammate who always has time for others, and the person who somehow makes even the trickiest problems look easy. You bring heart, wisdom and generosity to everything you do – and it doesn’t go unnoticed. Here’s what the team had to say about you: ? You’re a constant source of wisdom who’s able to untangle even the most complicated issues with ease. ? You always make time for others. No task is too small, and no question is ever too much trouble. ? You support the team and lift others up with thoughtful, heartfelt encouragement. ? You create genuine connections with clients that feel more like old friends catching up. ? You bring care, passion and professionalism to everything you do – setting a standard we all admire. And while we might wish you lived a little closer so we could hear your dulcet tones in the office more often, we’re so grateful to have you on the team – no matter the distance. Congratulations, Marc! You’ve set the bar high for 2025, and we can’t wait to see what’s next. #PlatinumTravelGroup #EmployeeOfTheMonth

New Year, New You!... My thoughts on Corporate America. I keep seeing all these promotions on LinkedIn, but honestly, I’m not sure what we’re celebrating. People pour their lives into companies, chasing titles and recognition for doing exactly what they’re already supposed to do. Promotions are great, but do they really define your worth or showcase what you’re capable of? For me, the answer was clear: No. That’s why I chose to bet on myself. Being self-employed has given me the freedom to design my life around what matters most. The work-life balance is better, the creativity is boundless, and there’s no need for a fancy title to prove that I’m good at what I do. Fisherman’s Warehouse, Pelagic Picnic Lures, and my World Record are proof that you don’t need a corporate hierarchy to achieve greatness. With the power of AI and remote collaboration, the possibilities for innovation and success are endless. The tools to build something extraordinary are at your fingertips—you just have to take the leap. Working for someone else might feel safe, but it’s not the only way. When you bet on yourself, the rewards aren’t just promotions—they’re real impact, independence, and a legacy that’s 100% yours. The world is changing, and the way we work should, too. If you’ve ever thought about making the jump, this is your sign.?

My amazing network, Thank you for the many congrats on my "work anniversary" recently (my consulting company Corporate Talent Advisors). Truth be told, I have had Corporate Talent Advisors (CTA) now for 16 years but haven't made mountain of money. I initiated CTA when I was part of a RIF, and was doing well for many months. But the uneven income was difficult and I missed the comradery of belonging in an organization. I have kept CTA alive with some side gigs, but went back to work full time in the corporate world. I love HR! Always have, always will. No other part of the organization can impact so many, create change, have a front row seat to view the worst and best, and watch individuals grow and succeed. I think I was pretty good at my job - I was always very challenged, successful, appreciated, and well compensated. But I've also seen bad leadership, HR-blaming, resistance to change, and egos that permeate and damage every corner of an organization. Yes, CTA is 16 years old, and I am now going to focus on this "teenager." I am happily stepping out of the full time HR race, spending my energy connecting with organizations, (for profit and not for profit), company leaders, community leaders, employment attorneys, and HR professionals to make an impact, share my experience, and equip others to have an impact on themselves, their organizations, and this amazing profession - Human Resources. If you are in HR, kudos, keep up the good fight. Be the best you can be - just as with any profession, you must continue to grow your knowledge, expand your influence, understand the business, and connect with people every day. HR is an integral part of the success of an organization - if your organization doesn't see or value that - leave. If you don't feel that - change your profession. If you need to talk - call me.
