Metals and mining giants?BHP?and?Rio Tinto?have announced plans to test large battery-electric haul truck technology in Australia’s Outback. The two companies will collaborate with both?Caterpillar?and?Komatsu?to test the latter two’s battery-electric haul trucks in the rugged weather and terrain of the Pilbara, which has an arid and tropical climate where temperatures of 113° F (45°?C) are not uncommon during the summer, making it an ideal test site for the battery-electric haul trucks. The tests will assess the performance of batteries as well as static and dynamic charging systems in the harsh Pilbara environment. The schedule calls for testing of two Cat 793 haul trucks in the second half of 2024 and two Komatsu 930 haul trucks starting in 2026, both at mine sites in the Pilbara. https://lnkd.in/dp5dAd69

Compact and capable From small scalers to compact LHDs, we look again at the market for #narrowvein and #lowprofile machines in mining. First up is Komatsu Mining which has introduced the 2nd generation of the its Z2 product line of small-class development #drilling & #bolting equipment with unique enhancements & additions, including the first #batteryelectric offerings within Komatsu’s underground #hardrock portfolio. Then we review ARAMINE's new L440B loader, which was showcased at #theelectricmine 2024 conference in Perth by Vladimir Traskine. It operates in small to medium-sized sections from 7-14 m3 and extends the range of its battery-powered vehicles. It incorporates Aramine’s exclusive innovation – its battery Quick Replacement System. An L440B with two energy modules using #batteryswap can operate without interruption. April 2024 marked South African company AARD Powered by Epiroc’s first anniversary as part of the Epiroc group. Cooperation between AARD and its new owner has been increasing following the acquisition. The first UV100s from AARD Powered by Epiroc were delivered to Trigon Metals Kombat mine by Epiroc #Namibia earlier this year. We also caught up with caught up with Kimmo Ulvelin, Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions Product Line Manager, Small and Low Profile Loaders to talk through its position in this part of the market including narrow vein loaders in the size class of 3-7 t: Toro? LH202, Toro? LH203 and Toro? LH307. Then in the low profile range, there are two models: the 7.7 t Toro? LH208L and 9.6 t Toro? LH209L. We look at how some of there have seen improvements in recent years in terms of sustainability, maintainability, usability and productivity. Germany’s Hermann Paus Maschinenfabrik GmbH has a broad product range of machines for narrow vein applications that are up to date with the latest technology. The latest product in this series is a scaler, the Paus PScale 10-T LP, a machine designed for tight spaces as it is just 1.9 m in height. The elevating cabin can be raised up to 500 mm. It provides adaptability to any situation, better visibility, and more comfort. We also look in-depth at the 1.5 t Paus PFL 8 LHD which has a small envelope size combined with a high breakout force for its class to save time and money in narrow vein exploration & mining. Onto GHH Fahrzeuge GmbH, a leader in the low profile loader area with the SLP-5, SLP-6 and SLP-8 machines which now have #DPF available plus other upgrades. By the end of the year GHH will also have a new super low profile 10 t LHD, the SLP-10, in the market. On the truck side it has for narrow vein the LF-3 & LF-7 LHDs & the MK-A20 dump truck. Lastly we review #Wektret 2 Narrow Vein, Putzmeister Underground's new concrete sprayer which will be launched at the end of this year; & the underground electric BROKK breaker tech that has been deployed by Grecian Magnesite S.A. at Koutzi underground mine. #futureofmining #smallermines #narrowveinmining #lowprofilemining
