Yes, it’s true - there’s a national day dedicated to underwear! While National Underwear Day was created to celebrate underwear and the freedom of self-expression that comes with wearing it, we are using it as a day to not only celebrate and be grateful for underwear--but also to bring awareness that not everyone has access to it. Our mission is to provide children with access to new underwear for each day of the week. 1 in 3 kids in MA experience clothing insecurity, and underwear insecurity is even worse because you cannot donate used underwear--it needs to be new for hygienic and lawful purposes. Therefore, underwear is one of the most needed but least donated items to shelters and youth-focused organizations. Cocotree Kids was created to fill this need and in just 3 years has distributed over 215,000 pairs of underwear to 30,000 kids across the state! Our goal to celebrate this fun holiday is to raise $5,000, which will provide over 1,400 kids with 10,000 pairs of underwear. Please help us spread the word--and Happy Undies Day! We are going to need bold, creative strategies and action in the year ahead, and they years following that, if we are to successfully fight for vital freedoms, push for social justice and support and protect vulnerable communities. One of the many reasons I'm proud to be on the Board of the Center For Artistic Activism is that their trainings and methodology help advocates get the skills they need to be resilient in the face of huge challenges. But don't believe me -- have a look at their impressive Impact Report (see the link in the comments). Read it, but don't stop there. The Center relies on donations in order to get their trainings to people who need it most. My message for people who are skeptical about this situation: Integrity matters, you gotta do the right thing even when no one is watching. People need to know what is right and what is wrong. Don't be a sheep and run after the shiny objects. Know your moral compass and support good people. If you are not part of the community you're not gonna know how awesome Cara community is and how much people are helping each other, respecting, encouraging, uplifting, leveling up together and so much happier because it's about human connection, engagement, one on one conversations, discussions and simply judgment-free art. We don't wanna be addicted to notifications but be more productive with our work, share meaningful thoughts, and sharing our creation with fellow human beings. If we look back into the past into the art history, there is masterful work done by amazing masters and nobody cared about Notifications (because it didn't exist) so people were more productive not that it's a bad thing in this modern world, just stating my observation, it was all about one on one conversations, letters, collaboration, surrounding themselves with like-minded people thought leaders and making beautiful artwork. Something we can learn from art history.
