HAPPY 6th BIRTHDAY The Goods Mart
As we celebrate 6 years since opening our first New York store in 2018, I’m in awe of how much we’ve grown, evolved, & thrived. My vision for The Goods Mart was simple: to create a space where anyone—regardless of their eating style or budget—could discover the best better-for-you brands.
My love for convenience stores began at the Sunoco gas station in Pinconning, Michigan - it was the ??of our community. That sense of connection is what I wanted to recreate at TGM but w/ emerging brands alongside $1.25 coffee & organic slushies we serve today.
We didn’t just hop on the "new-age convenience store wave; we helped shape it. We’ve had the privilege of working with incredible founders who are determined to make our food system better and more inclusive. Through their products, we’ve introduced people to snacks that bring back childhood memories without the sugar spike, new ingredients that enrich our environment, and helped families discover allergen-friendly options that are both cool & delicious. That’s still my favorite part—amplifying the voices of these founders and sharing their products with a whole new audience.
Even during the pandemic, when we were labeled essential, the connections we made—whether with founders, customers, or the UPS, FedEx, and USPS superheroes—shifted The Goods Mart into a neighborhood staple with a nationwide reach.
It’s been a journey, filled w/ support from friends, new lessons at every turn, & plenty of tears, both of joy & frustration. But seeing founders' reactions when their products land on the TODAY Show, at Hotel Chelsea, or in goop's offices reminds me it's all worth it. We might be small, but we’re scrappy & punch above our weight.
I don’t often talk about it but one of the toughest moments on this journey was closing our first store in Silverlake at the end of 2019. It felt like failure—like I had let down the Silverlake community and the brands we championed. And then, 2020 hit, and my grief turned into survival mode. But as one door closes, another one opens; the lessons learned from that chapter, though difficult, have shaped who we are today.
What started as a single store is blossoming into something far greater. And through it all, we’ve stayed true to our ethos. As we embark on our 6th year, we’re expanding our curation vertical and continuing to get these incredible brands we work with into even more hands. The number 6 symbolizes balance, harmony, and growth—which feels just right. This milestone marks a new chapter, and I can’t wait to see where it takes us. Let’s keep growing!
Thank you to everyone—our customers, our team, our founders, and the incredible people behind the scenes who keep us flowing and going. The Goods Mart wouldn’t be The Goods without all of you. I’m so excited for what’s next. Here’s to six years and many more ahead!
