Something I’ve learned about myself recently is that it takes a lot of guts to lay the groundwork for what could be a game-changing nonprofit for military families. I’ve found the courage to leap into this entrepreneurial journey, and I’m excited to share it with you. After navigating numerous challenges, I felt a strong desire to help others facing similar struggles. That's how The OCONUS Project was born. Our mission is to empower and support military families living overseas by providing vital resources, fostering community connections, and advocating for their unique needs. To kickstart this initiative, I need to hear from YOU—military spouses and service members who have lived or are currently living overseas. With the help of some fantastic supporters, we’ve crafted a survey to gather essential data that will enhance our mission and strengthen our advocacy efforts. ?? Take the survey here: https://lnkd.in/gRxG29UB Special shoutout to Beth Conlin, MBA, my newest advisor/mentor! I can't wait to see how we can work together to make the project the best it can be. Also dropping a shoutout to Surinder Goode for the continued support. If this resonates with you and you want to be part of the founding phase, please reach out! We’re looking for individuals with nonprofit or OCONUS experience who are passionate about making a difference. DM me directly—I’d love to connect and collaborate. Let’s make a change together! #MilitarySpouse #OCONUSLiving #Nonprofit #CommunitySupport #Empowerment

When it comes to making a difference in your community, information is the most valuable currency. That’s why the Marine Corps brought together nonprofit leaders on the island for a luncheon—to share insights, identify issues, and figure out how to use our collective resources to make the biggest impact. We can’t solve problems we don’t know about, and every nonprofit leader in the room shared valuable perspectives on where the military community needs more support. One issue that stood out was the sense of isolation some military families experience when they first move to Okinawa. I immediately knew this was something we could address through the North Island Okinawa Spouses Club (NIOSC) and other organizations like the USO. It’s not just about providing social events—it’s about making sure people know they aren’t alone and have access to resources that can make a real difference in their lives. As a community leader, having your ear to the ground and listening to these challenges is the first step. From there, it’s about taking action. I brought this concern back to the NIOSC board, and we’re already brainstorming ideas and sharing information and resources. This gathering of nonprofit leaders was not just a meeting of minds—it was a reminder of how vital it is to stay connected, share what we know, and work together to support the military community. The challenges are real, but with the right information and collaboration, we can create meaningful change. A special thank you to Trish Smith and Andrea Ruiz for hosting the event and bringing us all together. Trish and I have known each other for the last few years, and it’s always a pleasure to work alongside her. Her dedication to supporting the military community is truly inspiring! How do you see nonprofits working together to better serve and support the military community? Let’s discuss ways collaboration can create a bigger impact! #MilitaryCommunity #NonProfitLeadership #CommunitySupport #NIOSC #LeadershipInAction

If you’re looking for a way to support the #veteran community, please continue reading and consider donating here: https://lnkd.in/gY3VE3K6 On September 14th, 100 individuals, myself included, will be swimming 3.3 miles from Glorietta Bay to the #USSMidway in San Diego to support The Honor Foundation. THF is a program that helps #specialoperations veterans make the transition from active duty to civilian life. It teaches them not only how to write a resume and perform in an interview, but builds their networks and introduces them to all the options out there, showing them where their skills and passions can come to life outside of the military, giving them meaning and purpose, something that is very difficult for many special forces vets to find once they leave their teams. This program has changed the trajectory of my husband Kevin Seiff ‘s life (and our life as a family) in more ways than I can express. He started and we now run a business, he’s on an advisory board of a booming biotech start-up, and we work remotely, allowing us to travel and lead an active lifestyle on our clocks. Many vets unfortunately have not had this awesome transition. 22 veterans commit suicide every day. In the special forces community, prior to the honor foundation, only a small percentage were employed. Approximately 90% of Honor Foundation graduates are employed (and happily so) when they finish the program. This is huge. It takes about $10,000 per student to go through this program. Please consider donating and helping more vets get this life changing experience. Give back to those who have given so much for us.

I want to thank all veterans who have served our country for their dedication and sacrifice. It's essential to honor and support our veterans in various ways. Here are some tips on how you can show your appreciation: 1?? Support veteran-owned businesses by making purchases from them. 2?? Reach out to individuals in our industry who are veterans, whether through a text or a phone call, to express your gratitude. 3?? Show your appreciation by treating a veteran to a meal or donating to a veteran-owned cause. 4?? Take the opportunity to learn from veterans who have served for decades. Engage in conversations over a cup of coffee and ask them to share their valuable wisdom on strategy and leadership. Let's continue to recognize and support our veterans for their service to our country. Today PSS pledges buy from a veteran owned small business. #VeteransAppreciation #SupportOurTroops

Continuous Improvement | John Gallina, CEO of Purple Heart Homes, Inc. co-founded his non-profit because he was compelled by his experience of searching for housing after coming home from combat, overseas. His goal was to improve the current state of housing for the Veteran community. John notes, "Our mission is really simple: To provide safe and accessible housing for the men and women that wear the uniform for our Nation and we want to do that by connecting them to their community." If you know someone who could benefit from Purple Heart Homes' services, I encourage you to tag them in the comments section or send them this interview. VHV | Veterans Helping Veterans

"I felt like I was on my own..." Those words, spoken by countless veterans transitioning to civilian life, echo a painful reality. The battlefield may be behind them, but the struggle continues. Terri Tatum, a retired Navy veteran, knows this feeling all too well. After decades of service, the loss of community and purpose left her adrift. But then she found her "battle buddy" through the VA's Veteran Sponsorship Initiative. Someone who understood, who checked in, who offered a lifeline. "It was that community… that I think... I'm successful today," she shares, holding back tears. The VA is rewriting the narrative. They're connecting veterans with mentors, providing resources, and fostering a sense of belonging before the uniform comes off. The results? Veterans like Terri are 63% more likely to engage with healthcare and 50% less likely to attempt suicide. This isn't just about statistics; it's about real lives transformed. It's about reminding our heroes that they're not alone. That their service matters. That their future is bright. ???? Share what your nonprofit or your favorite nonprofit is doing and we might share it on our next post. #VeteransSupport #TransitionAssistance #MentalHealth #Community #NeverAlone #Nonprofit #Nonprofitleader #NonprofitCEO

Happy National Nonprofit Day! Today is meant to recognize the efforts and strides nonprofits are making in their communities and across the globe. ?? I want to shout out to every one of you for making sure the world is a better place every day. ??. And even more than that - you bolster freedom and democracy. Now, what do I mean by that? See below... We all come from the nonprofit sector with a different lens. Mine started at university. I was majoring in history (warfare) and politics (European and Eastern European politics). It was the height of the Cold War, and I was taught that one of the most distinguishing features of democracies over autocracies is the third sector - the nonprofit sector. Both democracies and autocracies have markets and governments. But autocracies don't have genuinely viable nonprofits. So that was it! When I eventually looked for work after university (and couldn't find a defense analyst job), I knew the nonprofit sector existed, and I knew it was important for freedom and a healthy democracy. The rest is history! ;-) And do you remember this chat over dinner Graham Hill? #nonprofitday #nonprofitleadership #fundraising #democracy #freedom #bastionoffreedom
