What does it take to become a good employer? Or in this case, as Forbes recognized, one of the best employers? Celebrating Labor Day made me think not only about recognizing the dedication of workers across all fields and celebrating the innovators and doers who drive progress and keep our communities and economies thriving, but also about how labor and the labor force have evolved dramatically. From the industrial revolution to the digital age, the nature of work has changed tremendously, bringing new challenges and opportunities. I believe today’s workforce is more dynamic and interconnected than ever before. Certainly more than when I started my work journey. Today’s workforce needs to adapt more quickly to technological advancements and shifting societal needs. As the CEO of Junior Achievement of South Florida, I see the changing perspectives of the next generation entering the workforce. They view labor differently. They: ??value flexibility, purpose, and innovation ?? are increasingly drawn to entrepreneurship ??are eager to carve out their own paths ?? want to make an impact on their terms With so many paths to work available today—from remote, hybrid and in person roles to the gig economy to the growing number of startup ventures—we need to recognize that labor looks different. What has not changed is the power of hard work, resilience, and the collective effort that moves individuals and organizations forward.
