Dear Friends of the WNY Women's Foundation, As the dust settles post-election, you might be feeling a mix of emotions. Acknowledging these feelings is a strength, a part of our journey, and a reminder of how deeply we care. Let this be a stepping stone, not a stopping point. The work is far from over. Women hold immense, often untapped power. Now, more than ever, we must unify, channel our ambition, and lead with conviction. Speak up—not just for ourselves, but for other women who need our voices. True community thrives on shared purpose and respect for diverse perspectives. This is no time for blame; it’s a time to listen, rebuild, and amplify our collective strength. Let’s recommit to our goals and channel our energy to tackle the issues that disproportionately impact women. Invest in women, childcare, and women’s health. Use your platform as a leader to drive change. We need more women CEOs, more voices, and more visible role models. Women drive 80% of purchasing and healthcare decisions—real change begins by investing in us. We must also celebrate wins along the way, like the passing of a state constitutional amendment that prohibits government discrimination based on ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, sex (including sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression), pregnancy, and pregnancy outcomes. This amendment expands existing protections against discrimination based on race and religion. History has shown that women have always risen to the challenge, supporting each other, uplifting communities, and making tangible impacts. The WNY Women’s Foundation will never stop until we’ve achieved our mission to create systems, culture, and policy change so ALL women can THRIVE! So, take the weekend to rest, reflect, and recharge. Then, let's get back to work—stronger and more determined than ever. For 25 years, the WNY Women’s Foundation has believed in the power of women supporting women. We must rise as voices, helpers, and advocates for human rights and equity for all. We are unstoppable when we lift each other up. For those who came before us and for those who will follow, we will carry this light forward—together. With strength, solidarity, and endless belief in what we can achieve! - Sheri Scavone, CEO, WNY Women's Foundation https://lnkd.in/dm5CqUp

The Power of Sisterhood: Building Strong Bonds Among Women of Color In a world where women of color navigate complex landscapes of societal expectations and cultural nuances, the power of sisterhood has never been more crucial. Sisterhood is not just a concept but a lifeline that connects women through shared experiences, struggles, and triumphs. ?? Why Sisterhood Matters For women of color, sisterhood is more than just a support system; it's a collective strength that empowers each member to rise above challenges. It's a sanctuary where vulnerability is not a weakness but a building block for resilience and understanding. The bonds formed within these communities are not just for personal growth, but they become a force for societal change. The encouragement and mentorship offered within these circles inspire confidence and ambition, creating a ripple effect that transcends individual lives. ?? Building Communities for Change The significance of sisterhood is especially profound in professional settings. When women of color unite, they create an empowering network that fosters growth, innovation, and leadership. This community becomes a hub for sharing knowledge, resources, and opportunities, paving the way for future leaders and breaking the glass ceiling that has held many back. ?? Cultural Richness and Diversity Sisterhood among women of color also celebrates the richness of cultural diversity. It allows for exchanging cultural wisdom and storytelling, which enriches personal identity and enhances our collective understanding. This cultural tapestry is a source of great strength and pride, reminding us of the resilience and beauty of our diverse backgrounds. ?? Join the Movement As we strive for equality and recognition, let's acknowledge the power that comes from our sisterhood. It's a force that nurtures, protects, and propels us forward. I invite you to share your stories, celebrate your heritage, and build bridges of support. Together, we are unstoppable. Let's connect and strengthen our sisterhood. Drop a comment, share your insights, or tag a powerful woman of color who has inspired you. Let's build this community, one connection at a time. At the heart of women empowerment is the concept of sisterhood; a bond that fosters resilience, encouragement, and shared success. Through the shared experiences, mentorship, and advocacy that come with this sense of community, women uplift one another. However, the strength of women supporting women is not only in the support given but also in the transformational power it has on individuals and communities. There is honestly boundless possibilities that arise when women come together. Whether in professional pursuits, personal endeavors, or societal change, the strength derived from mutual support among women amplifies resilience and fortitude. This creates a positive ripple effect, inspiring future generations and fostering a culture of inclusivity and empowerment that transcends societal boundaries. As women, we owe it to ourselves to build sisterhoods and up lift fellow women to new heights and collectively shaping a world where every woman’s success is not just acknowledged but celebrated - because when one woman wins, many more women are empowered.

Hii, welcome to Women’s History Month! ?? When I was making this post I couldn't help but anticipate the occasional fuss from some men, claiming, "Every day is women's day, when will men ever be celebrated?" Mantrums can be funny but let's not underestimate how dangerous they could be. This month, every month, every day, I will celebrate women. If the only time men feel overlooked is during women's celebrations, I deem their complaint invalid. Instead of ranting, here are a few things you can do this month to support and celebrate with us; 1. Support small women-owned businesses. It'll be more beautiful if you can patronize, donate to and support Black, Neurodivergent, Queer, and Disabled women-led organizations, or businesses. 2. Unlearn misogyny and stop victim-blaming. Break your silly and outdated "Bro codes'' that harm women. Stop killing, raping, and abusing women. Report individuals engaged in harmful behaviors that affect women, whether they be your friend or brother. 3. Advocate for women. Don't sit on the sidelines. Champion this cause like it's directly affecting you. 4. Provide women with opportunities, contribute to closing the wage gap, respect women and their voices, and foster a workplace that's conducive for them. 5. Instead of bitching about how men are being raped, killed, and also abused as a tactic to divert attention from women's issues, take the initiative to mentor the next generation of young men, helping them become better individuals. Dear women, I celebrate your journey, acknowledging our collective progress and the historic milestones we've achieved. In those challenging moments, stay resilient, as breakthroughs often happen when the going gets tough. Be your sister's keeper. "Women supporting women" shouldn't be lip service but your way of living. Unlearn internalized misogyny, racism, xenophobia, classism, homophobia and transphobia. Ditch the competitiveness and comparisons, and continue breaking down prejudices. Advocate relentlessly for your rights, recognizing our duty to the next generation of women. Thank you for being here, congratulations and Happy Women's History Month! #womenshistorymonth

So many need at a moment child care solutions, problem 1. Dropping our collective guards, expense to ratio is unbalanced, People should have better ways of vetting out child care specialist, Those that have had 2+ Years Early Child Care, Those that have degrees in Early Childhood, Have a child care web site, with proper vetting, so people know they are able to accomadate their child care needs. Have categorys, Mother Goose types, also, people with a Mary Poppins feel to them, in other words those that aunthentically love working with kids and families. Many people can qualify by stating their salary requirements, plus, all the other oddities that exist in being responsible for other peoples children. Some pertinent areas that include understanding the child or children you will be responsible for. Such as age, do children have allergies, routines, foods, as well as a plethora first meetings, getting to know child or children, It should be meetings of the minds, a kind of kismet, like, "I belong here," With this family, more importantly with this child, even more so for the people that watch somebody elses child for the long hours that the parents will not be with their kids, you the baby sitter are now giving instructions on behalf of the parents. Look like an easy job?

Something that is invaluable to me is learning from other people's lived experiences. One of the reasons I love being a member of the 10th house by The Female Founder Collective is it takes minutes for me to connect with founders who have been exactly where I am today... which is testing and getting ready to launch an MVP. I posted this call out last week and the result was: 5 women sharing their experiences, 2 commenting to stay in the know of the responses because they also are curious, 1 coffee chat and a whole new perspective on how to maximize this time. My takeaway for you? Find community, show up to that community, be curious, ask questions, be grateful to those who share! #networking #community #MVP #GTM #femalefounder

Dear Women Who Empower Chronicle Reader, As we approach another pivotal moment in history, the landscape for women's empowerment and leadership has never been more critical or promising. The upcoming race, with Vice President Kamala Harris as a prominent figure, is not just another election—it is a defining moment that reflects the strides women have made and the challenges that still lie ahead. Vice President Harris represents more than just a candidate; she embodies the resilience, strength, and leadership women have fought for decades to attain. Her journey to the Vice Presidency has shattered countless glass ceilings, inspiring women from all walks of life to pursue their ambitions without hesitation. But as we celebrate these achievements, we must also acknowledge this election's profound stakes for women everywhere. On The Cover Women In Tech Traci Campbell talks about one barrier that has yet to change: the inclusion of women in key decision-making roles. That was when I came out of college, and throughout my career, I had to fight to get to certain positions. I was fortunate enough to have experienced some of the dot-com era. In Austin, Texas, I was able to work with a startup company as a director of quality assurance and software testing. That was only because I paid my dues at IBM as a consultant. I met men who were also Black and Brown, and they held higher positions. So they said, Hey, we're going to help this sister come across and get some opportunities. And so when they started up a dot-com startup, they said, Hey, we need you to head up quality assurance. Get Up, Stand Up! The lyrics of Bob Marley's song "Get Up, Stand Up" deeply resonate with me. I recently faced a challenging situation during a hotel stay. I had to advocate persistently to first attempt to get the management to provide the ADA [Americans with Disabilities Act]-accessible accommodations they had promised me. Then, when they did not offer sufficient accommodations, I had to fight to receive the refund I rightfully deserved. It is crucial to be a strong self-advocate in these situations. Being proactive in addressing obstacles that impact you negatively and actively seeking out solutions to overcome any accessibility barriers is essential. This September issue of The Women Who Empower Chronicle offers more inspiration, empowerment, guidance, real-life stories, philanthropic initiatives, fresh perspectives, and encouragement. Reposting this powerful quote a week and a half after returning from maternity leave. I had my children 13 years apart. The birth of my first son resulted in a missed promotion. While I was fortunate to take leave, I was away during a critical business change and someone else stepped-up. Fast forward, after the birth of my second son, my husband and I are fortunate to work for organizations that support family leave and are sharing time away, resulting in a shorter gap for me and bonding for each of us. Neither of us takes for granted how fortunate we are for these circumstances. The U.S. workplace has come a long way in supporting families, but we have a long way to go. About 40 percent of women working in the U.S. don't qualify for FMLA and just over 20 percent qualify for paid leave. These statistics don't address the need to balance lack of child care options, the disproportionate cost of child care that pushes many woman from the workplace, and the gap created for women caring for aging family. It's time for systemic reform. As we wait for policy and solutions to catch-up, remember to role model change, advocate for better policy with your employer, and make the choices that are best for your family because there isn't a solution that works for everyone.
“The cost of the motherhood penalty is so real. We know that about a decade out of having a child, Mom’s economic impact suffers about 60% more than Dad. The math looks so fundamentally different - women are at the peak of their career trajectory when also becoming mothers.” - Allison Robinson, Founder? This past weekend, Allison joined SHEmedia at SXSW with a panel of powerful women discussing women, wealth and well-being, sharing personal insights to help empower others on their journey to success.?
