You might have noticed my recent *new position* update on here so I thought I'd share a bit about why?MotherBoard | Charter, Events & Community resonates with me, and how you can get involved. I'd love to hear your thoughts!
*Why did I choose to get involved?*
It's a great initiative, but also I've got first hand experience of how mums are discriminated against in the tech & data space. My mum was an IT Manager and after pregnancy complications was "made redundant" and told her post was no longer needed, and then a man was hired in her place just weeks later. She never returned to the tech space and chose instead to follow a more flexible career path.
With roughly 26% of the tech workforce in the UK being women, and 50% of women leaving the tech industry before age 35 it’s not as simple to ‘find more women candidates’ because of the fact there is a limited talent pool.?
There needs to be a greater emphasis on creating work environments that enable women, mothers, and parents to thrive, so they continue in their current roles, and the industry as a whole.
*What is MotherBoard and how can you get involved?*
MotherBoard is a non-profit initiative which is powered by?ADLIB Recruitment | B Corp?.?It's really simple for businesses to apply to become a Charter Signatory via the form here:?https://lnkd.in/evB3ghyQ?- what are you waiting for? Get on board! ??
Charter signatories take accountability for producing tangible change within their own organisation, and are part of the MotherBoard mission to create a more gender balanced industry.
Whether you're already a great business and you want to keep getting better, or whether you're at the beginning of your journey, signing up is win: win for employees, families, and businesses.
By becoming a Charter Signatory, your business will clearly demonstrate its commitment to improving gender equality and inclusivity for all mums and women as a whole.
I'm still heading up the Data Recruitment team here at ADLIB Recruitment | B Corp? and I'm really keen to hear stories from Mums in data roles who have either amazing experiences from their current employers or who have stories about challenges they faced and the consequences of these. I'm also keen to hear from DEI and Talent Acquisition professionals who are keen to make a difference in their organisations.
