Why do teachers love "Pop-up PD"? 1. It’s quick. Teachers take something away that they can utilize the very next day. 2. It’s teacher-led. It empowers the right people to do the right work at the right time. Find out how it works from Principal Derek Voiles.

Remember to pay attention to your instructional assistants and classroom aides. Often they do not get the professional development and career-building guidance teachers get. Usually these important employees quickly soak up any training they get, especially hands-on strategies to work directly with younger kids in math. Please do not forget these valuable assistants if your school is lucky enough to have them. What do you think? Agree or disagree?

What I appreciate from this graphic is the different ways students can expand their thinking. Often students are asked to analyze or evaluate a situation/evidence without tools to do so. Or teachers are placing value on one or two ways of thinking, and discounting any others creating barriers to learning. I am wondering how this information in this graphic could be used within rubric, graphic organizer, and/or task prompt to expand student learning and honor different ways of thinking.

The only job of school leaders is to get kids and teachers in the door. At the beginning of the year. After a long break. Each and every day. Nothing else matters if you can’t fill seats. You wouldn’t try to fill a tub if there was no drain stopper - would you? Some might argue that’s oversimplified. That you have to: -Keep kids safe -Teach math and reading -Meet state requirements -Prepare students for college But you can’t begin to tackle those priorities if seats are empty, budgets are cut, and schools are closing. If you understand that, then you know the priority is enrollment & attendance. So focus on things like: ? Communicating uniqueness (USP) ? Making every family feel welcome ? Transparent communication ? Removing barriers I’m tired of seeing schools close. Tired of knowing that there’s a great need for more teachers, but not enough good jobs to go around. We need to return to the days where most teachers felt like it was their life calling. And where kids trusted that they were in good hands. As a parent or leader, what do you think will get more kids and teachers excited about school? Share with your network if you feel this is an important conversation ??

"Sir, I don't understand!" It's rare to hear this directly from a child, no matter how boring the class might be. Instead, children have their own ways of signaling confusion or boredom: 1. Their eyes start wandering around the room. 2. They fidget with their pen. 3. They tap or shake their legs. 4. They doodle or scribble on the back pages of their notebooks. 5. They rest their heads on the desk. 6. They start looking at the clock. 7. They ask for washroom. A great teacher can read these signs without needing words. However, a child will openly admit they don't understand only when they feel completely safe and comfortable in your classroom — and that’s a mark of a truly good teacher. Fun Fact: Many students get sent out of the class for doing these very things. #Teaching #Education #Learning

Insight from Dr. Adriani Coleman as she assisted a school for the past few days with student-teacher evaluations for 2023-2024. "For four academic years, I have been assisting with student-teacher evaluations in Belize. These are the top things that I have noticed: 1. Most students love their school (regardless of what you might hear). 2. Most students take this exercise seriously. 3. Students love that their voices are heard. 4. Student feedback data is powerful for an institution. It is very insightful to hear the voices of our stakeholders. A lot of thought is put into creating the evaluation form and ensuring its authenticity. I love to hear and see the honesty that students share during this exercise. Photos are of some of my facial expressions while assisting students while watching the others. Ah, classroom management...I remember it well. It's always fun to be with students!" #dlpsbelize #digitallearningandpedagogicalsolutions #Belize #education #educationmatters

This week’s article by Olina Banerji caught my eye as I reviewed my recommended reading for the day, "How to Have Hard Conversations with Your Teachers: 3 Tips for Principals," underscores the significance of these skills and offers practical insights for leaders.?Looking back on my journey as a classroom teacher and school administrator, I’m often thankful for the variety of experiences I have learned from and how those experiences have translated into the opportunities and challenges of today. As a classroom teacher, I quickly learned the art of clear and compassionate communication. Engaging with students, parents, and colleagues requires a balance of empathy, patience, and assertiveness (and, of course, humor). These interactions taught me how to listen actively, provide constructive feedback, and foster a supportive learning environment. These skills are not confined to the classroom; they are essential in any professional setting where collaboration and mutual respect are key as the team progresses toward an established goal. Transitioning to a school administrator role amplified the complexity of communication. The need to address challenging situations with teachers, as highlighted in the Education Week article, demanded a more nuanced approach. The three tips for principals—preparing for the conversation, focusing on the issue, and following up—resonate deeply with my experiences. Preparation ensures that conversations are purposeful and respectful, focusing on the issue helps to maintain objectivity, and following up demonstrates a commitment to growth and improvement. While life will provide the opportunity to develop these critical skills. I’ve learned the importance of self-reflection. Self-reflection will allow these skills to translate seamlessly into everyday life. Whether mediating conflicts, managing a team, or simply engaging in meaningful dialogue, the ability to navigate hard conversations with grace and effectiveness is invaluable. The foundation of empathy, active listening, and strategic communication built in my educational career has empowered me to handle diverse challenges with confidence. #SelfReflection #Education #Developing https://lnkd.in/grJUFarz

“I know it's a cliché, but it's for the kids. It’s never a day goes by that I question whether what I'm doing has an impact on my community. When I work with kids every day, I know that what I'm doing is important, is useful, is necessary.” Part of their new The State of Teaching project, this powerful piece from Education Week captures the best aspects of the teaching profession, as told by teachers across the country.
