Western Australia, you talked and the government listened! The WA government has officially reversed its decision to require new signage on road trains after the trucking industry raised concerns. Initially, the plan mandated that road trains display signs with their length in both meters and car equivalents to help other drivers make safer passing decisions. However, industry leaders argued that frequent trailer changes would make these signs costly and impractical, especially for large truck fleets. Now, the signage is optional, giving operators the choice to display the new signs while keeping existing options available. #roadtrains #trucking #westernaustralia #fleetmanagement

Ya, and this will keep going up. Eventually more and more accidents and other issues will be caused by these places who charge to park. All they are doing is hurting the industry and hurting their own customer base that could otherwise be coming into their facility and buying food and services. “Safe” parking in trucking more or less means somewhere that I’m not going to be sideswiped in the middle of the night. Regardless, I shouldn’t have to pay out of my pocket, just to park a truck I don’t own. This will be an endless topic, I know how to fix this. However, I’m also a driver and I see the problems firsthand. Like bobtails that take up entire spots where a truck with a trailer could be, or places that charge or truck stops that take up 14 spots for their garbage or items that really don’t need to be there and so on. There are plenty of places to park, if people are open minded to understand.

At the same time trucking companies do not reimburse truck drivers for paid truck parking they also DO have requirements on where you can or cannot park. They will often tell the driver where NOT to park due to high cargo theft area but they still are not going to pay for it. Truck Stop Electrification (TSE) was the pre-cursor to paid truck parking. It went bankrupt on more than one occasion because truck drivers cannot afford to pay to park and companies would not pay for it either. Some companies would pay for a fraction of it to get the driver to not idle the truck but at the hourly rate they charged it was too expensive for the drivers to afford it. So they just parked anyway and didn't pay for it. The security didn't want to get in an altercation about it either. Here is how this evoles into a feasible business. When trucks are electrified and MUST stay parked to recharge. Then the company is forced to pay for the spot to charge the truck for it to operate. But what about drivers comfort while the engine is recharging? They will need air conditioning and heater during that period also in order to get proper rest. The hours of service say the truck driver must sit for 10 hours but the truck might be done charging in 5 hours. How do you get that spot free for the next driver so that the electric charger is efficient? One thing the truck drivers have said for many years is that the truck parking shortage became worse following the ELD Mandate and taking away the 5/5 sleeper berth option. By bringing back the 5/5 it would help this new age of trucking, it will require also a modern form of TSE like shore power to accompany electrified truck parking spots and it will also make the Truck Parking Club model obsolete because TPC doesn't hold leases. They resell truck parking as a middleman. None of the new players in the electrification sector will need middlemen because trucks will require paid parking to charge up as fuel replacement. The future of trucking is going to look a lot different. Here is that 2013, 1st driver led Jason's Law Truck Parking Survey, from before the ELD Mandate. #fhwa #truckparking #jasonslaw #truckdrivers #AV #Electrification #cargotheft #freight #truckparkingisanequityissue #transportation #equity https://lnkd.in/gfdF9GSH
