?? Chili's just reported all-time high same-store sales! ?? Brinker International, their parent company, saw a 31.4% increase in same-store sales at Chili's, driven by a surge in traffic and a focus on value and operational improvements. A few months ago, I shared my thoughts on casual dining narrowing the price gap with fast food. Looks like Chili's is proving that strategy can work. One of my mentors, Charles Johnson, emphasized the value of a sit-down meal with the family, and how Chili's has clearly delivered on that front. What do you think? And…that’s a wrap - 17 trade shows this year and the second season completed with Bidfood New Zealand ?? A common remark I hear is how lucky I am to travel around the country and see the sights as part of my job. ?? While my view often includes the sky, show venues, and accommodations, I AM so fortunate to meet and be inspired by so many incredible people. ?? The team I travel and work with: They put their ?? into every part of the show, from unloading trucks and setting up stands to sharing their passion for our products. ?? The amazing Bidfooders at every branch: so uniquely different, yet united by their passion for what they do. ?? Our customers: Business owners, staff, and chefs across various regions, eager to explore new innovations and level up their craft. ?? Our suppliers and partners: Working alongside us at the shows, supporting each other, and making even the tough days better. I’ve learned so much from sourcing stands and uniforms, organizing rosters, unloading and wrapping pallets, to even making coffee ?? Long days, catching up on emails at night, and sore muscles are all part of the journey. ??BUT seeing our brands grow, encouraging people to try something new, and witnessing those “wow” moments make it all worth it. Adding value through conversations and solutions has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Now it’s time to rest and recharge, before a new season of growing and learning ahead! And next year, seeing more sights is definitely on my to-do list ????

I’ve always believed that the little things we do can make a big difference in someone’s day. As a freight broker, shippers would call me with last-minute issues because they knew I would get the job done quickly and efficiently. It wasn’t just about finding a truck or moving freight from point A to point B. It was about understanding their needs, finding the right solution, and ensuring they felt supported during stressful situations. Those moments reinforced the importance of communication, adaptability, grace under pressure, critical thinking, and building trust through actions, not just words. Many of these skills were acquired long before my freight career, in the fast-paced world of restaurants, where some shifts literally felt like they were straight out of an episode of "The Bear". During my years in the restaurant industry, I found joy in creating small gestures that made people feel special, like writing a congratulatory message in chocolate sauce for someone celebrating or offering a thoughtful pick-me-up to a guest who’d had a tough day. These moments weren’t about grand gestures, they were about genuine connection and showing people they were seen and cared for. Now, as a travel advisor and consultant, I get to carry those values forward by creating meaningful moments for others, whether it’s a peaceful fishing trip, a family reunion, a weekend getaway, or the trip of a lifetime. For me, it’s not just about where you’re going but how the journey makes you feel. Kindness and connection have always been at the heart of what I do. Speaking of connection, I took this photo at Gallery Cafe in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago. It’s one of my favorite spots! It's a cozy coffee shop filled with local art and a true sense of community. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend stopping by. The coffee, pastries, and sandwiches are fantastic and their staff is the sweetest! ? It’s funny how the smallest things, a cup of coffee, a kind gesture, or a meaningful conversation can stay with us long after the moment has passed. I think about how I like working in the hospitality industry. Hospitality is the simplest way to pass time, requiring only a lazy and stupid disposition. It requires little more than to care for animals whose thoughts rarely venture beyond family, food, and pleasures of the flesh. That has shaped my time in commerce significantly. I chose a lazy industry. At some point, I shall have to pivot to industries which orientate themselves about things like making money out of money. But the problem then is, at the end of the day if you dig down to it ... the people who enjoy making money out of money don't hire other people to do it for them, as much as they like to do it by themselves. In fact the sort of people who hire people to make money for them, typically spend their money in the hospitality industry - so there is no running from animals, they are everywhere. What do we do? I am still considering the rest of my life and career. I always hope it will be trivial, and short, but here we are ... continuing, to wonder about tomorrow. What to do?
