Rural transportation. It’s a huge topic of conversation within the #NEMT and #healthcare industries. How do you provide equitable access to some of the most vulnerable populations that often have the least amount of resources simply because of geography? Today I got to hop in a vehicle and remove some rural transportation barriers myself. I love these opportunities for many reasons: - We are providing crucial access to care for individuals who may otherwise go without. - It gives me the chance to find a park bench, slow down, reflect on how blessed I am and think about new and upcoming ways to grow Ride YourWay. - Michigan is a BEAUTIFUL freaking state that I’ve only seen a fraction of in my 28 years of calling this place home. A couple unsolicited takeaways: Operators: find a bench, get out of the office, understand how your company works in the field and enjoy connecting with your clients! Rural Michigan organizations facing access to care issues: let’s talk about removing barriers and improving the health of your community! #removingbarriers #NEMT #Michigan #accesstocare #ruraltransportation

~Announcement of Collaboration: PHLUSH & Pedestrian Space~ "While Public Hygiene Lets Us Stay Human (PHLUSH) has traditionally focused its efforts on equitable public restroom access in the United States, we are thrilled to partner with a globally-focused organization, as we recognize that this is a worldwide need. Pedestrian Space deeply values the opportunity to partner with PHLUSH, an organization wholly devoted to public restroom availability, as issues of toilet equity are universal and often sorely neglected both as a public amenity as well as in public discourse and awareness. We look forward to joining forces to coauthor content on public restrooms as an issue of public health and walkability; urban planning, governance and design; access to communities and overall livability." EVIDENCE OF A WALKABILITY CULTURE, NORTH AMERICAN ROOTS + WALKABILITY & MOBILITY JUSTICE SPECIAL ISSUE I recorded this last week on #TransitEquityDay. I was visiting Southern California, the region I was raised, for the first time in almost 30 years. It was a trip to be dipped back into a region of such intense car dominance, though I have to mention that I’ve experienced (and lived in) regions of heavy car dominance here as well in Europe. It was pivotal to return to the beautiful part of the USA where I was raised & get a taste of the #publictransportation developments that have happened over the past few decades, get a glimpse of the pockets of #walkability culture in diverse neighborhoods as well as experience the still reigning car dominance. I also mention in the video how much the visit impacted me, wanting to get more engaged in the North American advocacy landscape. I’m also interested in connecting with various academic institutes and other organizations to shape education and awareness about walkability. I also know there is a sensitive need to cultivate walkability in communities with equity in mind - great urban walkability should not be a feature reserved for so-called ? privileged communities. Please DM or email?[email protected]?if you would like to discuss collaboration. I also talk here briefly about the special issue of?Cities & Health?journal on ?Walkability & Mobility Justice’ that I will be lead guest editing. By the end of last month, I had put together my global and diverse guest editorial team. We will announce the call for submissions (which should all ultimately connect to aspects of urban health) by early June. Subscribe to the Pedestrian Space newsletter, one of the places where the call will be announced. https://lnkd.in/eeDcHP_V #urbanhealth #citiesandhealth #mobilityjustice
