I am thankful to work 7p-7a shift caring for patients on First Floor Medical. We have such a great team of smart, compassionate nurses, aides and secretaries. I appreciate a culture that has led to a SIXTH consecutive Magnet Designation. I applaud efforts at all levels to find creative ways to overcome obstacles. Recognizing that all hospitals - including my own- have great challenges ahead, I want to share my "Grown Up Christmas List" for 2023 and the years ahead. 1-Ask nurses "on the ground" in direct patient care what we need and include us in finding solutions. 2-Make time to listen well. 3- Share resources that will help us think outside the box and to work with Leaders to innovate, and reduce redundancy in cumbersome documentation (which is pulling us away from time with patients and exhausting us). 4- Prioritize Nursing in Epic/IT to do lists. 5- Make sure we have the supplies and systems we need to work smarter. 6- Notice and speak up with appreciation when we go above and beyond (day after day) to give patients great care despite the challenges. 7- Write a note so we can reread when we are weary - put a copy in our evaluation folder. 8- Decrease the time it takes to hire strong candidates before they take jobs elsewhere. 9- Recognize loyalty and excellence with pay that is best our system can offer. 10- Promote a non-punitive Just Culture that recognizes broken systems and staffing realities and the impact on our practice and nurses well being.

Medical Assistant vs. CNA? There are similarities between CNA and MA duties, but there are greater differences between the job duties and responsibilities of these careers. CNAs have more direct patient contact, compared to medical assistants. They work in doctor‘s offices, clinics, nursing homes, or private homes. Medical assistants work directly with a medical provider, usually in a physician‘s practice or clinic. They take patient information and make appointments for patients. Medical assistants (MAs) and certified nursing assistants (CNAs) have very important responsibilities. The roles of CNAs and MAs often overlap, yet there are distinct differences. ·????????Some MAs begin employment without certification but are likely limited in career opportunities ·????????Every state has specific certification requirements for CNAs ·????????CNAs complete 75 hours of state-approved training prior to taking the state exam #NursesAssistant #Homecare #CNA #NowHiring #Nursinghomes Medical1staffing.com

Is there any particular soft-skills which make a team work well together? What about knowing your teams strengths & weaknesses and good communication. Over the weekend I had the pleasure of working with new & old faces in providing pre-hospital immediate care to >100,000 visitors, over 1,000 acres, at the beautiful Chatsworth Country Fair. This team consisted of various nurses, paramedics, EMT's, FREC4's, FREC3's & Team Leads. All bringing their own set of strengths & weaknesses. By understanding each others strengths & weaknesses within the clinical world we were able to support the team with ensuring the >100,000 visitors had access to immediate first aid treatment - whether this was as simple as a plaster or transport to the local A&E for hospital treatment. This understanding meant that incident delegation was selective to the needs of the patient - enabling a quicker and more effective patient treatment service. With a clear, effective and concise communication chain within the team (from being contacted by a member of the public, member of staff or the dedicated control room) the medical team was able to build trust within the team (this was clear from the team culture from Friday to Sunday). The clear communication enabled the medical team to improve productivity with no overloading of personnel. Ultimately, the clear, effective and concise communication chain enable the medical team in providing a quick and effective pre-hospital treatment service to the >100,000 visitors. As much as this post is focused on pre-hospital medical cover for an event, the principles of understanding your teams strengths & weaknesses and having an effective communication chain is something which is universal in all businesses/teams. #goodcommunication #teamwork #strengthsandweaknesses

According to a recent MGMA survey, 43% of medical group owners have hired alternative staff to cover open medical assistant roles. MGMA reports that many practice leaders look to fill the gap left by an MA vacancy with certified nursing assistants (CNAs), registered nurses (RNs), and licensed practical nurses (LPNs). "When MAs are unavailable, it puts practice administrators in a position to find someone else — including themselves, at times — to ensure a staff member can room patients throughout the day," writes MGMA Managing Editor Chris Harrop. Other tactics medical group owners are implementing to help cover clinical duties covered by MAs include: ?Establishing a path for nonclinical internal staff or non-certified MAs to become MAs through education, training and apprenticeship programs ?Hiring EMTs and combat medics ? Implementing a program for medical and nursing students as interns or part-time workers You can read more about MGMA's survey at: https://lnkd.in/gN3DWhVr #PracticeManagement #MedicalStaffing #MedicalAssistants
