Just finished reading "Breaking the Mould" by Raghuram Rajan and Rohit Lamba, and feels like a WOW! This thought-provoking book challenges conventional wisdom and offers a refreshing perspective on India's economic future. Here are some key takeaways that resonated with me: 1. India's unique path to development:?The authors argue that India needs to ditch the traditional linear development model and forge its innovative path,?leveraging its strengths in knowledge and develop services around exporting knowledge based services such as high value chip design in India.?I found this argument particularly insightful,?as it encourages us to think outside the box and embrace India's potential for disruption. 2. Investing in human capital:?Education and skilling are crucial for propelling India's growth,?and the book rightly emphasizes the need for robust investments in these areas.?This resonates with my own belief in the power of education to uplift communities and individuals. It shares examples of investment in educating rural India over PLI for low-end chip manufacturing, it is counter-intuitive for many, including me. 3. Governance reforms are essential:?The authors call for strengthening democratic institutions and decentralization to create a more efficient and responsive government.?This aligns with the importance of good governance for sustainable development. Some content of the book raises uncomfortable questions, which can be put to argument. Overall, "Breaking the Mould" is a must-read for anyone interested in India's economic trajectory. Breaking the mould: Reimagining India's economic future by Dr Raghuram Rajan and Rohit Lambs is a well researched book touching upon all organs of government that needs to come together and act to accelerate India's growth to become a devloped country. Dr Rajan and Lamba has debunked many schemes and policies with solid examples and statistics which appear to be pushing India on to the growth trajectory but in reality are just waste of public exchequer. This book is a true source of information in a world bombarded with only one side of the story and paid journalism. While I am skeptical about some of the alternatives the authors propose to take India into the league of global powers, there is a genuine attempt by authors to give a well rounded understanding about the consequences we will have to face at national and global level if India continues on its path to majoritarian Chauvinism and continues policies and frameworks that incentivise low skilled manufacturing jobs and companies. It's a must read for anyone who has a stake in our country's growth and development. #economics #books #indianeconomy #politics
