What do patient satisfaction scores, prior authorizations, peer-to-peers, and challenging patient interactions have to do with each other? Simple. I dread all of them. They are also integral to the practice of medicine in 2024. If I want to provide patient care, positively impact patient lives, and make someone else's day a little better, I have to embrace things I don't want to do. When we vilify these aspects of medicine, we unintentionally create barriers to our overall well-being. We also hinder our ability to find joy and fulfillment in our medical career. We punch ourselves in the face and then complain that it hurts. Of course, you will dread work if you believe it is impossible to be happy working as a physician in 2024. ?Is it possible to view patient satisfaction scores and challenging patient interactions as valuable learning opportunities to improve communication skills? ?Is it possible to view a prior authorization as a way of getting an effective treatment for your patient? The answer may be filled with resistance and an immediate 'No!' or maybe there is some openness and the possibility of 'Yes' that might allow for a more rewarding practice of medicine. It turns out you don’t have to suffer from work dread. #WorkDread #PhysicianBurnout #CareerChallenges #OvercomingDread #PhysicianLife #PhysicianJourney #PhysicianEmpowerment #PhysicianCare #ShowUpForYourself #PhysicianWellness #PhysicianRevolution #PhysicianWellBeing #MedicalMindsetShift

In embracing my role as a patient educator, I created the Rivera Method to directly empower people living with lymphedema. This approach isn't just about providing medical information; it's about transforming lives by integrating the latest medical advancements with holistic practices tailored to the unique needs of those living with lymphedema. Unlike traditional methods that primarily prepare healthcare professionals, the Rivera Method focuses on the patients themselves, addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of the condition. This ensures a comprehensive, empathetic approach that equips patients with the tools they need to manage their condition effectively and lead fulfilling lives. It's about shifting the paradigm from patient to self-advocate, providing the knowledge and power to navigate lymphedema with confidence and independence.?? https://lnkd.in/gfVi9hmy

The Unexpected Joys of Medical Practice In healthcare, we often encounter situations that challenge both our knowledge and intuition. I recently shared a personal experience on Medium that taught me a profound lesson about the balance between clinical expertise and human empathy. A mother of four came to me with abdominal complaints, and during the examination, I felt something surprising—a baby. Despite her certainty that she wasn’t pregnant, I gently suggested she get an echography. Months later, she returned with a beautiful baby in her arms, reminding me of the unpredictable and joyful nature of our work. This experience underscored the importance of patience, trust, and humility in healthcare. It’s a powerful reminder that sometimes our most significant role isn’t just to diagnose or treat, but to listen, support, and let the truth reveal itself over time. ?? Key Takeaways: Communication is vital, especially when patients are skeptical or unsure.Trust between doctor and patient can lead to unexpected and rewarding outcomes. Empathy and patience are as crucial as medical knowledge in our practice. I invite you to read the full story on Medium, where I reflect on this and other experiences that have shaped my approach to medicine. Let’s continue to embrace the surprises and joys that come with this incredible journey. ?? #Healthcare #MedicalPractice #DoctorPatientRelationship #EmpathyInMedicine #TrustInHealthcare #PatientCare #MedicalStories #LifeAsADoctor #HealthcareProfessionals #MediumArticle #MedicalExperience #MedicalEducation #HumanSideOfMedicine https://lnkd.in/dbh-gVzK

As a medical specialist, I am reminded every day of the profound impact a fresh set of eyes and a compassionate heart can have on patient care. Each individual who walks through our doors brings with them a unique story, a set of symptoms, and a personal journey towards healing. It is our responsibility, as healthcare providers, to approach every patient scenario with a renewed sense of curiosity, empathy, and openness. When we look at each patient with a fresh set of eyes, we create space for discovery and innovation. No two cases are exactly alike, and by remaining open to new possibilities and alternative perspectives, we can uncover solutions that may have previously gone unnoticed. Every patient encounter is an opportunity to learn, to grow, and to push the boundaries of our understanding. In the fast-paced world of medicine, it can be easy to fall into routine or to rely on past experiences to guide our decisions. However, by consciously choosing to approach each patient scenario with fresh eyes and an empathetic heart, we breathe new life into our practice. We honour the uniqueness of each individual, celebrate the diversity of human experiences, and reaffirm our commitment to providing the best possible care for those who entrust us with their health. Today, I invite my fellow physicians to join me in embracing the power of fresh perspectives and empathy in our practice. Let us commit to seeing each patient as a new opportunity for growth, connection, and healing. By approaching our work with curiosity, compassion, and understanding, we can truly make a difference in the lives of those we serve! #healthcare #health #publichealth #physician #femalephysician #womenphysician #surgeon #compassion #femalesurgeon #patient #patientcare #patientadvocacy #newbrunswick #canada #canadianhealthcare

Captured in a candid moment by a friend....! This photo encapsulates the essence of what it means to be a physician. Each patient brings their unique story, often in their local language, requiring attentive listening and careful consideration. As a physician, I embrace the challenge of sifting through the details, filtering out the unnecessary Info , and piecing together the vital information to formulate a diagnosis and craft a tailored treatment plan. It's not just a scenario from a textbook; it's the real-world practice of medicine, where empathy, understanding, and expertise intersect to provide the best care possible. #PhysicianLife #ListeningSkills
