Safety Monday: Wildfire Safety Alert With wildfire risk peaking in October and November, today brings high danger conditions to much of central and eastern Pennsylvania. Burn bans are in effect for Berks, Bucks, Chester, Lebanon, and York counties, and local municipalities may have additional restrictions. Help prevent wildfires by staying aware and taking precautions! Why is fall so dangerous for wildfires in PA? ?? Dry Fuel Source: During autumn, leaves pile up in fluffy layers on the forest floor, creating easily ignitable, dry fuel. ?? Seasonal Conditions: Low humidity, warm temperatures, and dry winds set the perfect stage for fire to spread quickly. ?? Ignition Sources: Unfortunately, 99% of wildfires in Pennsylvania are caused by people, often from burning debris, equipment use, campfires, and even power lines. Did You Know?: Most Pennsylvania wildfires start in someone’s backyard! A small spark or debris fire can quickly spread through dry grass or leaves, putting people, homes, and natural habitats at risk. Protect Your Property: ?? Clear the "Immediate Zone" (0-5 feet) around your home of all flammable materials. ?? Break up the landscape in the "Intermediate Zone" (5-30 feet)with fire-resistant plants or materials. ?? In the "Extended Zone" (30-100 feet), create spaces within forested areas to reduce fire spread. Stay Safe, Pennsylvania! #WildfireSafety #PAWildfires #SafetyFirst #ResourceEM

2024-Feb-28 `Several?wildfires?are ravaging northern?Texas?thanks to dry, windy and unseasonably warm conditions in the region. On Monday, thirteen fires across Texas burned a total of 77,135 acres, according to the?Texas A&M Forest Service. Now, firefighters are still combatting several active fires across the Texas panhandle. The northernmost fire, named?Smokehouse Creek, is at zero per cent containment as of late Tuesday afternoon and is estimated to be 200,000 acres. Meanwhile, the much smaller?Windy Deuce?and?Grape Vine Creek?fires are at 20 per cent containment, while the Juliet Pass fire is at 90 per cent... Dry and windy conditions amid unseasonably warm temperatures fuelled these fires. Drought conditions are not contributing — much of the panhandle?has no drought, with just small portions of the western panhandle considered “abnormally dry” or in “moderate drought.” Winds could reach up to 65 miles per hour today, the?National Weather Service?(NWS) forecasts. Additional fires have continued to develop throughout Tuesday afternoon, the NWS for Amarillo, Texas said on?X.` https://lnkd.in/eQYbhzhQ
