EOM: End of Month, right? January is typically the hardest month of the year to get through for many of us. (To read more, go to NAMI.org) We're recovering from post holiday finances, family interactions, re-entering work, going through performance reviews, and engaging with new KPI's and OKR's for the year, and for some processing layoffs. Let's use the end of the month as a point celebration: ----->What's a highlight of this month? ---->When did you feel empowered? --->Who was there for you when times were a bit tough? Let's create a culture of celebration at the end of this month and move into February with positivity.

Non-profit organization guidance & tips!

Most people won’t watch this video because they don’t actually understand how much post traumatic stress truly effects the lives of our veterans and first responders. Unfortunately, the stressful and unwarranted interaction with security earlier activated a pretty intense migraine, and I had to leave halfway through the event. I’m now back in my room, resting and watching the competition from here, hoping to recover for tomorrow. As you can probably see, K9 Willow is doing her best to distract me right now, because talking about this kind of activates me again, and she knows it. She’s amazing at sensing when I’m starting to get stressed. While I’m doing my best to stay positive, this situation highlights the real impact that a lack of awareness around service dogs and accessibility can have. It wasn’t just a small inconvenience – it affected my entire day, both physically and mentally. And I know I’m not alone in this. I share this not to point fingers but to show how much work we still have to do in terms of education and creating truly inclusive environments. Let’s keep the conversation going, and hopefully, we can create positive change so others don’t have to go through the same thing. Thank you to everyone who has already shown support. I’ll be resting up and ready to go tomorrow – hopefully without any more hiccups! We’re proud to support Mirror Image Arts in their nonprofit mission to disrupt the pipeline to prison in Colorado — as part of our ongoing DEI commitment. Theresa Mazza and the entire crew are smart, committed, professional and talented at their jobs. The work they do is inspiring and eye-opening. Here’s what their organization does, in their own words: We are disrupting the Pipeline to Prison throughout the Greater Denver Metropolitan Area. The pipeline is a charged and complicated issue, affecting youth everywhere we operate. The United States persists in incarcerating children and youth despite overwhelming evidence of its ineffectiveness in steering them away from further system involvement. Although the number of youths arrested and incarcerated has declined significantly between 2000 and 2020, the decline is not spread equitably across all demographics. Children of color are especially vulnerable to overcriminalization and therefore overrepresented on every front. Of the 265,600 children arrested in the United States in 2021, 1 in 3 were Black children, though Black children constitute only 15% of the nation’s youth population. Mirror Image Arts utilizes Restorative Theatre?, positive youth development, and trauma-informed and restorative approaches to disrupt this pipeline. We work with youth (ages 7-21) in schools, diversion programs, and juvenile detention centers. Through our work we aim to: Provide youth a safe, caring relationship with a trusted adult. Co-create spaces of belonging where youth AND youth-serving adults can build self-awareness, connection and empathy. Offer youth-supported spaces where they can process their emotions, practice bold decision-making, and reflect on the results of their choices. Role model for youth how resilience can be expressed so they can navigate difficult social situations and come back stronger. Assist schools and youth detention centers in their move from punitive disciplinary practices toward positive youth development and healing-centered engagement.
