?? PSG Family Law Tip: Handling Disputes with Your Co-Parent ?? Disagreements between co-parents are normal, but how you handle them can significantly impact your child's well-being. Here are some tips to navigate disputes effectively: Open Communication: Keep communication channels open and respectful. Clearly express your concerns and listen actively to your co-parent's perspective. Focus on the Child: Always prioritize your child's best interests. Base your decisions on what will benefit your child most, even if it means compromising on your own preferences. Seek Mediation: Consider mediation or counseling to resolve conflicts. A neutral third party can often help find solutions that work for both parties. Follow the Agreement: Adhere to your custody agreement or parenting plan. If modifications are necessary, discuss them calmly and agree on changes together or with legal advice. Document Everything: Keep records of all communication and agreements. This can be helpful if disputes escalate and legal intervention is required. Remember, co-parenting is a journey that requires ongoing effort and understanding. By approaching disputes with a cooperative mindset, you can create a more harmonious environment for your child to thrive. #CoParenting #FamilyLawTips #PSG

Solicitors and Legal Executives apply for Family Law Accreditation Scheme membership by completing a detailed questionnaire that assesses their knowledge and experience in Family Law and related matters. Every five years, practitioners must renew their membership under the re-accreditation process. Scheme members are expected to comply with the requirements of the Family Law Protocol. The aims of the Family Law Protocol are to encourage a constructive and conciliatory approach to the resolution of family disputes, encourage the narrowing of the issues in dispute and the effective and timely resolution of disputes. This means that you know that at Francis George Solicitor-Advocate we endeavour to minimise any risk to the parties and/or the children, and to alert the client to treat child safety as the primary concern. We always act with regard to the interests of the children and long-term family relationships and ensure that costs are not unreasonably incurred. #legaladvice #solicitoradvocate #wecanhelp #francisgeorge #legalteam #familylaw #freeconsultation

I've just been reading the SRA's 2024 assessement of continuing competence, and one of the areas of focus for the SRA over the coming year is going to be family law. The SRA website says: "Family law is a high-risk area of legal practice. The consequences of a lack of competence by a solicitor can be potentially life changing. Consumers accessing services such as divorce, domestic abuse and child custody arrangements are often more vulnerable because the legal issues involved can be complex, emotional and highly stressful." As many of you will know, I was a family lawyer. My area of specialism was child protection and I'll tell you now, it's HARD. You end up being so much more than a lawyer to your clients. The SRA are interested in knowing what law firms are doing to make sure that their family lawyers are staying on top of their learning and development. If you're a law firm, as well as technical training for your family lawyers, I'd think about things such as: ?? Dealing with emotional cases (including looking after clients and yourself) ?? Active listening ?? Emotional intelligence ?? Resilience ?? Communication (and empathy) ?? Conflict resolution The SRA are going to be writing to all firms who practice family law by the end of 2024 to remind them of their obligations to upskill anyone working in this area. If you want to get on the front foot with it, we'll be able to help. Give us a shout. #heartleadership #familylaw #SRA #solicitors #lawfirms
