This week, a client came in who was confused during the session. Confused is another uncomfortable feeling we experience, and it's an important one. Confusion is important because it's a feeling that we need to experience in order to learn something new. I'm Patricia Smucker, a cognitive behavioral therapist, and in these videos I'm doing some cognitive behavioral coaching. And the coaching part of these videos is the part of cognitive behavioral therapy in which we learn something new. And so when you come into a CBT session, about 30%, especially in the beginning of the treatment, is learning a new way to think. And we do that by making a distinction between our thoughts and our feelings, learning to label our feelings, learning to label our feelings so that we can change our thoughts. And there is no way to experience that without feeling confused. I don't think the education system reinforces this feeling enough. We need confusion because the synapses in our brain are changing when we learn something new and we are changing the neurological structure of our brain in cognitive behavioral treatments. #mentalhealth #instagram #reels #cbt #cbttherapy #mentalhealth #confused #feelings #confusion #viralreels #uncomfortablefeelings
