Curious about what is special with ships that are built for sailing in polar waters, I can reccomend this film by Lindblad Expeditions Expeditions where Captain Martin Graser explain the important features of such vessel.

*WHAT THE STARS ON THE FLAG REALLY MEAN** On the Australian flag, the "Southern Cross" refers to a constellation of stars prominently visible in the Southern Hemisphere, represented by five white stars on the flag, signifying Australia's location in the southern part of the globe and serving as a key symbol of the country; it was used by early explorers as a navigational tool to find south. Key points about the Southern Cross on the Australian flag: Navigation: The Southern Cross was crucial for early sailors navigating to Australia as it is easily visible in the southern night sky. Symbolism: It represents Australia's geographic position in the Southern Hemisphere. Appearance on the flag: The Southern Cross is depicted by five white stars, with four larger seven-pointed stars forming a cross shape and a smaller five-pointed stars. The Southern Cross was not included on the flag because of Blak fullas of this country as Jacinta Price is suggesting. It represents the early explorers of this country !!!

Welcome aboard '#Maritime Glossary'! ?? In this new column, we dive into the fascinating nautical #vocabulary. Let's kick things off with the term #Fore,' a crucial element in maritime language.?? ??? 'Fore' is all about the bow of a vessel, signifying the front part of the ship. The term 'fore' can be used alone or in combination with other words to indicate specific positions or objects located at the front of a ship. For example, 'foredeck' refers to the area at the front of a ship's deck, while 'foremast' denotes the forward flagpole on vessels with more than one mast. #ErasmusPlus #Shipbuilding #shipwright #AHOD360 #VocationalEducation

Will the Ulstein X-Bow become the new standard in Expedition Cruising? It will be interesting to see how many other expedition companies follow Aurora’s lead. The unique X-Bow design found on the newest expedition vessels is part of a long evolution of bow and hull design in cruising. The X-Bow was first introduced by Aurora Expeditions with the launch of the Greg Mortimer in 2019. The strangely tapered upside down shape is a departure from the tapered bows and U-shaped hulls found on most cruise ships, or the V shaped hull of Cunard’s iconic QM2. The X-Bow deign has the effect of slicing through the water, piercing the waves, rather than riding on top of them. This results in greatly reducing the pitching motion you find with a V shaped hull, which allows for more stability in rough seas such as you would find in the notorious Drake Passage. I will be following this with interest. #auroraexpeditions #gregmortimer #douglasmawson #xbow #ulsteinxbow #expedition #cruising

Starliner's successful return without incident is a good result for everybody.?Although some may want to paint this in a recriminating light against NASA's decision to send the capsule back without its crew, I don't think that's the proper perspective. I often say that leaders should derive their confidence in decision-making from?clarity?rather than certainty.?It appears the lack of clarity about the numerous problems on this test flight is what eroded the confidence of NASA engineers and leadership as they considered the necessary and inevitable decision to put Butch and Suni at risk in one way or another.?I wrote "necessary and inevitable" because risk is inherent in all options.?They all realize that.?But they were apparently clearer about the risks with Dragon than with Starliner at that point. Although both Boeing and NASA have had a rough time of it in recent months, I hope both see the opportunity to draw value from this?test flight.?The mission is over, but what happens next will determine the test flight's success.?NASA made a good move by publicly reestablishing human safety as its top priority.?Although the test flight failed to bring the test crew back, nobody got hurt, and no assets were damaged or destroyed.?So, now, Boeing and NASA should work hard to prove they can "fail forward" successfully by getting clear on what happened and charting a course forward immediately.?And although there's been a lot of speculation about whether Boeing will cut bait and pull out of the commercial crew program, I think this would be shortsighted and a lost opportunity to prove that working through problems is part of the game and what pros like Boeing do best. Looking forward to the next Starliner flight soon!
